Description

Morgana La-Fae was born Morgana Orkney. She was the eldest daughter of Lord Gorlois, and his beautiful wife Igraine. The beauty of Morgana’s mother was so great in fact, that the Gorlois’ closest friend, King Uther, betrayed him and took her for his own, along with Morgana and her sisters. For one year, Gorlois did nothing to oppose his king, though his displeasure was clear for anyone to see, besides Uther himself. Gorlois spent his time building up his army, under the guise of defending the kingdom, but on the night Igraine was to give birth to Uther’s child, Gorlois began his assault.  Uther was enraged, demanding that his court Wizard defend his castle, but the wizard refused. However, when Uther took his forces out to fight Gorlois, the Wizard snuck the girls out through an underground passage way with a map to a different lord’s keep. Merlin told them to tell them to trust the lords once they arrived, and that they would take them to where they need to go.

Over the next two years, Morgana and her sisters were taken from lordship to lordship, spending more time traveling through small hunting paths than they did in the cots that the lords felt were fit for the step daughters of a dead king. It wasn’t until Morgana and her sisters meeting with Lanval Forlae that they truly regained some semblance of family. Life still wasn’t easy however, as they began a long trek to Albion. It was when their journey was almost at its end that the man Morgana’s step father had promised her to captured their traveling band.

While waiting for their captor Morgana was met by Merlin once again.

She lashed out at the old man, threatening to burn his beard away for all the grief that he had caused her and her family. The wizard laughed at this, asking how she planned to do that while locked in a cage without anything to cast spells with. This did little to temper Morgana’s rage, but the wizard continued. He explained how they were traveling north to meet a new heir for Uther’s kingdom, and that they were to assist in his rise to the throne. Morgana wanted to yell at Merlin again, but he stopped her. He tried to explain the wondrous things this new king would do, but as Morgana rolled her eyes, he decided showing her would be more useful. He gave her a glimpse of the prosperous and finally united land, with a golden king sitting at its head. And she saw her, standing behind the king, her hand on his shoulder.

Even after this, it took hours of convincing for Merlin to get her to agree to the plan, especially since it required her to marry Urien, the man who had just captured her family, and nearly killed her best friend. She did agree eventually however, and twelve years later, her family made their way north on a “picnic.”

It was here that Morgana met the young Uncrowned King, a blond-haired youth with barely even peach fuzz on his chin, who had lead his armory through almost the entirety of Albion. Morgana became instrumental in improving Arthur’s claim to the throne, searching records and maps, and laws for ways that he could take the crown, not by force, but because it was his rite. Morgana, along with the help of Ser Bedivere, discovered a magic sword that Uther had enchanted to only be able to be pulled by his rightful heir. It was in pulling this sword, that revealed Arthur to be Morgana’s baby brother, born on the night that Lord Gorlois murdered their mother. This brought the two closer together, and heavily increased the Uncrowned King’s claim at the same time.

Despite his claim being greater, not all of Uther’s lord had the same reverence for magic as he once did. The new course of action Morgana helped develop was finishing gaining the support of Albion before moving south into Britania. The first move into Britania was to Uther’s second-best ally after Gorlois, Lord Leodegrance, who just so happened to have a daughter of appropriate age for the young Arthur.

It was during one night when Arthur’s army was staying at the castle that Morgana’s ever faithful knight visited her in the night. Apparently Lanval had had a less than favorable first encounter with Guinevere, and she took Lanval’s perceived disappearance as an opportunity to get revenge on him. She accused Lanval of assaulting her in her chambers. A trial was had, and when Morgana approached Bedivere with his alibi, he demanded that she not bring this information to light, as it would give him banishment anyways. Even when Lord Leodegrance called for Lanval’s head, he denied her entrance into the long hall. When she tried to enter despite her brothers Justiciar’s warning, she discovered it was magically locked. After the trial was over, and Lanval was locked in the dungeon, Bedivere summoned the Uncrowned King and Morgana to his chambers.

There he called Morgana out for trying to enter the court against his explicit instructions, and that he was insulted that she thought he wouldn’t have something to prevent her from coming in. She berated him for allowing Lanval to be sentenced to death. They debated for hours, Bedivere talking about the danger of trying to save Lanval from the dungeons, and that Arthur’s ascent to the throne was all that mattered. At this point, Arthur spoke up, making the decision of what was to be done. He did not want to be king if he had to sacrifice people his companions unnecessarily to get there. It was Morgana who decided the how. In the night, they snuck Lanval out, using a spell to disguise herself as her brother, while Arthur was at a feast with his wife to be, Morgana brought Lanval outside of the keep where a horse had been stashed. Morgana kissed her knight goodbye, sending him off with a purse full of gold. After a few weeks, as to not raise suspicion, Morgana went back to Lord Urien along with her sisters. She managed to convince the lord that it was in his best interest to swear allegiance to her brother.

As soon as there was peace however, Morgana’s hatred of her brother’s wife grew. She played many a prank on her, but none of them bad enough to cause her any harm. There were days when she wished she could bring the same pain to Morgana, but she loved her brother, and wouldn’t ever dream of harming him. On one of these days, Morgana’s husband saw fit to poke the metaphorical bear with a stick, and she decided to turn her rage onto him. Placing a dried out sea sponge under his bed, that over several months, drained all the moisture from his body. Morgana then sent her son to rule over a smaller Lordship that his father had taken under his control, and then took over ruler ship of Rheged.
