Description This is a shot of my completed alternate history airship "Pterois". It fits somewhere along the WWII timeline, but in a world where alternate technologies were explored more heavily.

She's a lightly armoured airship bristling with offence/defence (Pterois = Lionfish). In my little world, she would be a civilian/mercenary craft, with no Axis or Allied alliance. Her lift/propulsion is a mix of propeller/lighter-than-air/magnetism and anything else I could shoehorn in there!

Back in the real world, I scratch built the main chassis from thin plastic sheeting, lots of Evergreen rods, struts, tubes etc, with the superstructure built the same way. The model kit parts are largely donated from a Revell 1:72 Schnellboot (May she rest in peace). The box lifts up to house some simple electronics for an amber navigation/warning light on the exterior, with two more amber lights hidden in the forward propulsion units.

She's primed and base-coated with Tamiya Spraypaints, with dry brushing, inks, details and weathering done with Games Workshop acrylics. This was also my first attempt at making my own decals. I created some graphics in Photoshop and printed them out on some Inkjet Transfer Paper. The nose art is inspired by the real thing on WW2 Bombers etc. If you can't make it out, its a nude woman flying with a Lionfish. Well I thought it worked ok

The decals worked ok, but they turned out somewhat thicker than commercial decals, so don't blend into the paintwork quite as well (Would it be better on decal paper made for Laser Printers?)
