Description Oh sweet, it's been a while since I last dished out some fan art. I've been itching to do fan art of this character for a long time and now I finally have the time to make it happen

This is the protagonist of a little known manga/anime called Shadow Skill named Elle Ragu. Shadow Skill is one of those rare obscure anime that you would have to be a highly privileged 90's kid to even know about. I managed to catch it on Starz's anime block that used to air late Saturday nights alongside Hellsing, Vampire Hunter D, Fist of the North Star, etc. I remembered the name out of nowhere, saw through every anime rendition, and it's quite good. Not the best, but badace enough to turn me into a legit fan

There are a group of elite soldiers of a warrior village Kuruda referred to as Sevalles which is a title handed down through generations to the best. Elle so happens to become the 59th Sevalle by age 14 (presently 17) due to her deadly expertise in the Kurudan killing martial art known as Shadow Skill, which utilizes powerful kicks to disable opponents or outright destroy them with the use of various Kuruda Annihilation Techniques (Rapier, Tomahawk, Chainsaw, etc.) You can tell at this point that the anime is all about martial arts, which I so happen to be a sucker for

Hope you guys like it (regardless of my bad attempt at perspective), and enjoy the awesome opening sequence with a gorgeously addicting theme song

Yeah, you really should! The budget put into the TV show is noticeably pretty bad the first 13 episodes. But once the series kicks into the second half of its 26 episode run, the quality gets really awesome from that point. I finished the TV series and all the OVAs (excluding the 5th since I heard it's pretty bad) and all it's left me is a craving for more Shadow Skill

Oh man, I remember Starz's anime block. I used to watch it right after Mad TV (back when it was still on). I sometimes miss about half of the block due to Saturday family parties on other houses and the very first thing I do is turn on the tv as soon as we got back.

I remember watching Fist of the North Star there (in fact, I was first introduced to the show because of that block), but I don't remember seeing Shadow Skill there at all. I do however, remember watching other shows like Vandread and Blue Seed (PLEASE tell me you remember seeing Blue Seed, it's old-school 90's anime at its best IMO) on it.

Nostalgia mode aside, this came out pretty awesome. When I looked at the thumbnail at first, I thought that was a dude (mind you, I never even heard of Shadow Skill until now) but then I noticed "2 reasons" that proved my assumption wrong

As for the perspective, it's not that bad at all. If I had to guess though, this looks like you were attempting an asymmetrical three-point perspective. Either way, this looks like it got the job done pretty well

Funny thing about FotNS. I got into it from playing the arcade game at the local skating rink. The game where I had to punch the pads that pop up as fast as possible. I thought it was the coolest thing every and I instantly fell in love with the game, even though it did take a toll on my arm muscles XD I watched the Starz block one night and saw Kenshiro right there on my TV screen! The episode where Ken had to free a village from Madam Patra. I had a feeling in my gut the show looked familiar and I instantly fell in love with what I saw

The anime block only aired the first 3 OVAs in the form of a movie and the art style was DRASTICALLY different. This clip should ring a few bells on the off chance you actually took a glance at it.

And yes, I totally remember Blue Seed I've hardly watched much of it, so I can't remember much other than one of the characters waving some fan back and forth XD What stood out for me the most was this and the original Hellsing anime. Freaking masterpieces I tell ya

Elle's the kind of person that would appear to be a dude since she's so buff, so I believe you'd make that mistake when guessing her gender XD And thanks. Glad the perspective turned out to be believable.

NO... F#CKING... WAY.

Dude, that arcade game was the very first FotNS related thing I've ever been exposed to as well! While I said that I was first introduced to the series from the anime, I didn't count the arcade game because I didn't know what the hell I was playing until I saw the show years later. But yes, I played it at a Boomer's during one of my middle school field trips. All I remember was putting on those plastic glove things, flailing my fists like crazy, and saying "Man, that fat-ass was easy as hell but why is this blonde dude kicking my ass?!" as well as "'You're already dead?' what kind of cheesy line is that?" After all that I tuned in to the block, Kenshiro says his catch phrase and BAM, all those memories from the arcade game came flooding back. Till this day I say the most tiring part of the arcade game was doing THAT DAMN HUNDRED CRACK FIST ATTACK during each level, since all those pads came flashing at you ALL AT ONCE without letting you rest.

And as for that clip, it kind of does look familiar in an advertising sort of way. The weird voice acting and overall 90's atmosphere of it all makes me feel like I've seen it before even though I haven't (if that makes any sense).

Is Shadow Skill available on DVD at all?

It is, actually. Some weeks ago, there's some DVDs of the TV series and OVAs in stock on Amazon. But there's not many copies left unfortunately

Man I missed the gold ol' anime where you feel the romance and emotion within, like Sailor moon and Outlaw Star. Nowadays, it just animes that focused on fanservice, even though there are good modern animes like Durarara and Summer Wars and Studio Ghibli. And yeah, I go for animes that has kung fu too! Anyway, Nice artwork you did! That expression reminded me of Revy from Black Lagoon.

I agree completely. And Elle's probably the only female protagonist in anime with gigantic muscles and doesn't have the personality of a typical cutesy kawaii-desu sluuuuuut :U Instead of playing innocent, she'd rather find another fighter and commence beating the living crap out of each other for kicks

I'm itching to see Summer Wars and Arrietty. Sat through Durarara during its run on [adult swim] and it was incredibly fun to watch! And thanks a lot, now I have an urge to draw Revy one of these days

Thanks, sis. It's pretty ironic considering she's blond in the original manga and the OVA
