Description MOAR bento box pictures.
I've been making lunches since last October twice a week, and I don't take pictures every time, so I'll eventually run out of images. I still have some more to put together though.
On some days I make sandwich instead, especially when I don't have enough ingredients or time.

There are staple ingredients for obento menu, mainly for the colors, but also for nutritious value... Carrots and sweet potatoes I like to have for its orange color, (and beta carotine... ) I sometimes use Japanese pumpkin for bright warm yellow. Broccoli is great to fill in little gap, also adds nice deep green. Edamame adds pretty bright green, too.

I try to stick with generally Japanese recipe and flavoring, but I also use other Asian ingredients/recipe.

The strange egg head in box #2 was an experiment, just boiled quail egg with black sesame pieces for eyes, tiny sliver of carrot for the mouth.
I'm not so good at making food look like things.

Thanks! I'm never motivated to make one for myself, but for my beloved, I like making it.

Those look both incredibly yummy and beautiful. How long on average does it take you to make them? They look time consuming. Did you get any of the recipes off websites at all, I havent been able to find many Japanese ones about lately.

You made these???? They're gorgeous! Do you make them for yourself or for your hubby? There is so much work that has gone into these! It must take you quite a while to cook everything and then arrange it so artistically.

I'm pretty efficient cook, and it's really not much work. (otherwise I won't agree to do it...even for my beloved. )I make them while I make dinner, and I generally use recipe that are fairly simple. All you need is to have good variations of sauces and spices to keep the menu interesting, which can be prepared in advance.

We went to Japan Center today (one of my favorite places) and normally I don't really look at the restaurants (I go to shop, not eat ^^), but today I noticed one with pictures of obento on display. Having just seen yours, I studied them with interest and quite critically, and honestly, none looked as good as yours. Really!

I must say these look scruptious. The coloring really makes the food stand out. Everything looks so fresh. Damn, now I'm hungry...
