This has been sitting around over 8-9 months, and I decided to just call it finished and move on to a new work.

There are things I would do differently, but I didn't know better then. Anyway, I like the idea I had with this image, so I'll probablly try to percolate that some more in the new work.

Your work is lovely, but it's the hair that I love the most! =3

I admit that at first I believed he was a girl, but when I payed attention to his clothes, I saw he wasn't. I read other deviants comments, but all of them avoid to mention his genre

Great work!

Where did you find the brushes you used on the kimono? They look awesome :3

thanks! I actually drew all the patterns (i know i'm crazy, and it took a big chunk of time) It is not obvious at this size, but if you enlarge the image to 100%, the lines in the patterns look uneven and hand drawn.

Oh wow OxO
But I doubt you could've gotten it to look that good without drawing them yourself.

Awesome! I love the concept and lines. Colors too. You use the coolest colors! I think that's the main thing I want to work on right now - developing my use of color. I'm not so good at it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pixmaina In reply to choirgirl7 [2008-03-06 14:15:29 +0000 UTC]

thanks. One merit of digital work is that it's so much easier to figure out color schemes. It's so easy to try out different options quickly. (thanks to layers) Not to mention there's no clean-ups or wasted paint...

choirgirl7 In reply to pixmaina [2008-03-06 23:13:17 +0000 UTC]

And you can come back and work on it whenever you want and not worry about leaving everything out and messy! I'd probably go back to doing a lot more work with pastels if it wasn't so messy and I hate having to pack things up if I'm not done, but leaving it out bugs me too! (Same goes triple for oils!!!)

pixmaina In reply to choirgirl7 [2008-03-07 06:36:38 +0000 UTC]

yes oil...it used to be the medium of my choice. It's extremely messy, but you can paint really BIG picture, which was pretty much the only reason interested me in it.

choirgirl7 In reply to pixmaina [2008-03-12 06:19:28 +0000 UTC]

I don't even mind the mess as much as the SMELL! Headaches for days!

pixmaina In reply to choirgirl7 [2008-03-17 16:16:31 +0000 UTC]

yeah, and to get rid of turpentine after use can be annoying. I still have large jars of used turpentines that I need to take it to the city's disposal facility. A friend of mine who is a painter developed allergic reaction to it, over years of exposure to the vapor. But he doesn't want to change his medium, so he limits the amount of the time he works with it.

It definitely gives me a headache! I'm off on my spring break now (and all next week) and plan to get the next pic done. I think I've found a reference that will serve my purposes. I'm definitely much better with at least some sort of reference! Have you done it yet? I'm also going to get the basics for the club written down and I'll note you and see what you think. I'd like to at least get people thinking about it...

oh, i haven't started anything for the next theme. I think I will try to do purely traditional this time. Maybe with watercolor or ink. Usually in those mediums things will go pretty fast. (mostly because you can't fuss over things that much once it's down on the paper)

I hope you enjoy your break!
