A beautiful and scary creature. It looks much more like a "hybrid" dinosaur.

This is a really cool dinosaur, but I fail to see how it's 'better' than the Indominus Rex-it's really nice, yes, but I don't think it's that much of a step up. In fact, why are any of these new creatures 'better'-because they have feathers? By that logic, would a Godzilla redesign that's just a feathered version of Zilla be better than the one that's been stomping across the silver screen for 60 years now?
What am I saying? Of course you would say yes. (Referring to the commenters, not PixelMecha)

I guess it's a matter of opinion. This was my attempt at a more exciting design than Indominus and contribute to the fun of "Build a better fake theropod" which is more of a platform to get creative with the idea and explore the possibilities. I personally find Indominus' design really boring, but that is a matter of opinion.
Godzilla doesn't need feathers because it was never meant to be a creature that could hypothetically exist. That was a monster movie which did not claim that Godzilla was genetically engineered from Velociraptors or whatever.
How come this isn't aimed at me? Clearly it is speaking about something I have made and is a comment on my page? So you're coming here to insight an argument with people who have said nice things about something that I have made by putting words into their mouths? Please don't.

Eh, I like Indominus, but I do agree that it could have been better. Honestly, that's my own view on the whole Jurassic World film-it's pretty good, but there's a lot of unused potential.
One problem with your idea: Godzilla was actually surprisingly accurate when he was first designed. Plus, last I checked, Jurassic Park did have a pretty clear message: don't play God badly. If you think about it, the more inaccurate the dinosaurs get, the more obvious that message is.
Honestly, it's more aimed at this guy and his Mary Sue dinosaur:Β www.deviantart.com/art/Tyrannoβ¦

Oh right, I see.
Honestly it's all just a bit of fun, I don't feel that strongly about Indominus or Jurassic World, it's just a shame it's a missed opportunity to bring accurate dinosaurs to the general public.
I don't think this "build a better fake theropod" is meant as an outright attack on JW, but as an interesting starting point to explore some fun ideas.

Spot on! As I was adding features they were more of an "Inspired by..." rather than pulling features directly from animals, but I certainly used all of the above as reference. There was some Deinocherius in there too, maybe.

Seriously? Look at all the colors. And you can't tell me that there isn't something slightly goofy-looking about that face.

Edit: Edited my original comment out due to knee-jerk reaction.
There's a case to be made for this looking clown-like, but I personally don't particularly think that the colours and patterns used resemble the traditional image of a white-faced, red-lipped, round-nosed clown. The face does have some human-like features and is a little mandrill-like.
The idea behind the bright colours is an over-the-top sexual display as seen in many birds; go take a look at King Vultures. The bright colours evolved to attract mates.
Personally I think the face resembles things such as Bhutanese wooden masks, but personally I don't see the clown resemblance past the bright colours.

Thank you! The colours were sort of inspired by Indominus rex but I pushed them to their limits. Also I like using pink a lot on scary looking beasts; it's a more intense and creepy colour than people give it credit for!

TThat is incredibly gnarly.. its face.. holy crap I need to use this as inspiration, I see some kind of Koopa-esque character with its face broken up into different color areas like that.
It's so huge but those legs are a little small.. would it support itself okay? I feel like knuckle walking would benefit this sucker.

PixelMecha In reply to Kairu-Hakubi [2015-06-11 20:58:50 +0000 UTC]
I'm really glad you like it! It'd be interesting seeing a Koopa with something like this, I think the face turned out with a hint of ape in there which I kind of like. It's meant to be a genetic mash-up!
I'm wondering if it could be a knuckle walker, the stubby legs were inspired by Spinosaurus but this fella is clearly not aquatic. I'm not sure if the arms/fingers would support that though, and I think the weight would be balanced enough over the legs for it to be bipedal (this whole discussion reflects what's been going on with Spinosaurus and it's potentially stubby legs).
Actually, I don't think the legs here are much smaller, compared with the body, than they would be on T. rex; the arms are just much, much bigger and more dromaeosaurine which makes the legs look a bit out of proportion.
