Description

Leanna practically slipped on the thin sheet of snow that froze on the concrete steps she descended, keeping a close eye on the battlefield from atop of the partly demolished wall in Dale. Carnage, hate, death… there was so much of it, and she hated knowing her comrades were out there while she was laying low with Bilbo in Dale. It was hardly effective, however, for soon Dale had become overrun by the disgusting goblins and orcs, only a few she had to kill to get out of her and Bilbo’s way.   …

Bilbo followed behind closely, watching over her shoulder the battle going on in front of Erebor. Thorin and the company had just marched on the field to join the fight - while this was pleasing to the Hobbits, knowing Thorin had finally dismissed the Dragon Sickness, it was also worrisome.

“I have to go help,” Leanna was still catching her breath. She turned to Bilbo, who looked just as disheartened as she was, eyes wide with grief.

“No you certainly do not,” Bilbo frowned. “You are fine here with me, the Dwarves have it under control!” Leanna bit her lip and furrowed her brows. She quickly brushed past Bilbo to make her way to the entrance of Dale. Her judgement and smart thinking was clouded with desperation. “Wait, no! Where do you think you’re going?”

“You heard me! Bilbo we are a part of the company, we cannot abandon our friends like this.” Leanna exclaimed, still rushing away from Bilbo as he followed in a half-jog.

“Our duty is complete Leanna! Regardless if we are a part of the company or not, safety is always important, and you are way too small to be fighting out there!” Bilbo shouted, the two hobbits shoving past fleeing civilians and charging soldiers.

“I am not! I am just as strong as them!”

“Leanna!” Bilbo caught up and grabbed her arm firmly, stopping her completely. She attempted to yank her arm from Bilbo’s grasp, but his grip was too strong and resilient.

“Let me go, cousin. I have to help them! Let - me…” she attempted once again to just walk off as if Bilbo weren’t holding her back. “… Go!!”

“Relax Leanna, this isn’t the time to be so reckless! You are only 3 feet tall and you want to ‘help’ by risking your life only to be crushed underneath the foot of a troll in mere minutes!” Bilbo wasn’t in the mood to beat around the bush. “To see your courage grow so much since we left home is admirable. Truly, Leanna, I am proud, but please think rationally. I cannot lose my cousin because she went blind into a battle too powerful for her.”

Leanna’s arms went limp. There was no use- he was right. Her heart was thumping heavily with grief and adrenaline, tears forming in her sapphire eyes, brows still furrowed. All she could think about was her companions on that battlefield, and if she would ever see her beloved Bofur again.
