She prefers to be called the gender she identifies as, perhaps. Also, have you played the japanese versions, or read the Japanese manuals? This is where my information comes from, it is usually removed from english versions. In smash bros trophy description she is said to be  "of indeterminate gender".

Stuff in Mario Games changes constantly, the Koopalings were Bowser's sons before Bowser Jr. Came. In modern Mario games Birdo is refered mainly as a girl and only ones genderless.

You didn't answer my question, have you played or read any of the Japanese versions of these games? I assume you have only played the english versions. There is more than one manual, from both the 80's and more recently, that refers to Birdo as a boy wanting to be a girl. It is also a legitimate scene in "Captain Rainbow", where he must help Birdo, who wants to use the ladies bathroom despite being a boy.

Also, the change to the koopalings was an official announcement in an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, this is different. Also, official nintendo announcements say all sorts of stupid things, such as that Mario and Peach are "just friends" and that Toads do not have male and female, despite the fact that Toadette exists. Maybe you should embrace everything that Nintendo says?

Prerty sure they were refering to the generic Toads not to Toadette anyway, Captain Rainbow is not a Mario game and should not be counted, also I'm refering to in game things like in Mario Super Sluggers where Peach's special shot makes the characters feel in love with her all excluding the female characters and it has no effects on Birdo.

You have read the SMB 2 manual, but there is a Mario tennis manual too that mentions Birdo as Yoshi's "girlfriend that is actually his boyfriend".

There is no reason not to include Captain Rainbow. You are just making excuses.

Technically, if Birdo identifies as a girl, he/she might not be attracted to women but instead to men. In which case she would still be a boy trying to be a girl.

I have a more important question, why is it so important to you that Birdo is actually really a girl? Are you transphobic?

Yes there is, since it's not a Mario game it can't be considered canon.

I'm not transphobic however people hate her because "she is gender confused" but Yoshi who is in the same situation gets a bass because "he is cute".

If you consider transexuality "gender confused" you are either transphobic or do not understand it at all.
But what about Vivian? In the Japanese version of PAper Mario, she is a boy that wants to be a girl, in the plot of the actual game. Her sisters make fun of her because of it. It was censored in english versions. And nintendo hasn't had a chance to change it because she was only ever in one game. What do you say to that?

Also, Yoshi is not really "gender confused", they are a species where the whole physical sex of individuals is not specified. Either that, or the males lay eggs, it never says that they want to be girls.

Vivian appeared in one game and unlike Birdo his/her gender thing is more present into the acutal game. They don't have to change it also because he/she is in one game and won't come back anytime soon.

Yoshi was refered as "she" in his biography on Mario Portal.

So you carp on about Captain Rainbow not being canon, and then cite a FAN MADE non canon game to prove that yoshi is a girl? You have poor debating skills. If that is your only source that is pretty poor.

Just so you know, you calla transgender person by their preferred pronoun, not as "he/she". Maybe you are not transphobic, but it is possible you are a young person with very little understanding of the issue.

Yoshi is a species as well as an individual. There are individual yoshi's that lay and throw eggs. Nothing else is specified about this, other than referring to yoshi as a "him". We can only assume that the main yoshi is a male creature that lays eggs, this is all in a world where people can be turned into blocks, and mushrooms talk. Yoshi is not transexual, and if he were the fact that he is referred to as a male, and lays eggs would make him a girl that wants to be a boy, which is the opposite of birdo.
