Description The previous building of the stage theater was probably built at the beginning of the 1st century AD. It was probably used as a gathering place for civil commemorations for the dead general Drusus, whose tomb of honor had been erected only 340 meters away on today's citadel.

For this purpose, the representatives of the 60 Gaulish local authorities met. Mogontiacum - the capital of the Roman province of Upper Germania - was therefore a political place of pilgrimage for Germania and Gaul, where the common Roman roots were remembered every year.
