Purussaurus was the largest crocodilian to have ever lived.It was a giant caiman that lived 5.3 million years ago during the miocene period in what is now South America.The overall size of Purussaurus has varied over years with the lowest estimates being 10.3 m long and around 5,160 kg in weight and with estimates as high as 12.5 m in length and weighing as much as 8,400 kg though the most likely size estimates of Purussaurus is 10.9 m in length and 5,600 kg in weight.Purussaurus had such powerful jaws that it's bite force was more than double that of the Tyrannosaurus.Purussaurus actually lived alongside the giant caiman crocodilian Mourasuchus and the gharial like Gryposuchus crocodilian though Purussaurus likely was the top predator out of the three of them.
