Description
Explorer 1 was the first satellite launched by the United States of America on the 31st of January 1958. It was launched from the Cape Canaveral missile launch complex in Florida on top of a Juno rocket booster. It was also fitted with scientific equipment unlike Sputnik 1, which only had a radio broadcaster. Explorer 1 was the first spacecraft to detect radiation from the Van Allen belts.
