My playing around got me a bit notalgic about what I could do with 3delight.
The magic ball is a key thing about 3delight. It was created by GeorgeHaze for me a few years ago and we agree its one of the things about iray, that's lacking. This ball's glow effect can't be replicated, and it's not actually creating any light, what light you see is a small "Linear Point Light" set between the ball and figure with raytracing shadows set to 50%.

Render time: about 8 minutes.
