I was amazed how lucky I was to photograph this one on this day. I am a Union Pacific modeler (HO) and love special paints.
Further, I was amazed I was the only one around that day to photograph the Safety Special UP was operating out of Brooklyn Yard, Portland, OR.

I don't think UP runs many of the Heritage Units through Chicago. They usually stick them on intermodel runs bound for Yard Center.
I've just had pure luck catching what I've caught. I don't look at line up sheets or information on when these moves are coming.. I just go and enjoy what I do with the hopes I see something which surprises me for the good!

Thank you for your comment. Living in Oregon, I think trees make just about anything more attractive. They seem to make the locomotive come to life a little more.
And, yes. I think American locomotives are built to exude power much more than elegance these days.

Very nice! I have shot 1989 more then any other special unit by any RR. She is great looking and my favorite one!
