Argus Panotes, a mythical giant was said to have a hundred eyes. The godess Hera chose him to guard the one the priestess Lo whom Hera had disguised as a white heifer to hide her from Zuse. Zuse sent Hermes to lull Argus to sleep and slay hin. To honor the service of Argus, Hera painted the eyes of Argus in to the tail of the peacock.
