Description
It all went so wrong so fast.

Joshua was hanging out with his friend, Benjamin, trying but failing to get the other kit's attention as he continued to read his book at a steady pace. An idea popped into Joshua's head, and as he stared quietly at Ben he slowly but surely grew more confident in what he was about to do.
"Well," Josh sighed, reaching out towards Ben's face, "you've left me with no choice, Benjamin." He quickly snatched the glasses off of Ben's face, not moving to put them on, simply just holding them. "Makes it a bit hard to read if you can't see, huh? A shame, I suppose you have to chat with me now."

Benjamin had looked up from his book the moment his glasses started to move away from his eyes, and he narrowed his eyes at his friend. "Very funny, Josh. May I have my glasses back now?" Joshua simply shook his head no, a smirk on his face. "I just don't think that's very possible, Benjamin." Joshua loved being a bit of a nuisance to his friend. It never truly upset Ben, so he saw no harm in what he did. It always elicited some sort of reaction that Joshua would get a kick out of.
Ben wasn't biting, however. Instead, his paw shot out to grab at his glasses to snatch them back. At least, that was the plan. Thanks to his limited vision, he overestimated how far away Josh was holding his glasses, and instead of grabbing them back, he smacked them out of the air. They fell to the floor, snapping cleanly in half due to the sudden impact. The two friends were silent, both staring down at what remained of the glasses.
"Well, that's quite unfortunate." Josh awkwardly chuckled, scratching at the side of his face. "I suppose we'll have to get you some new glasses."

Suddenly, Ben stood up, turning on a dime and starting to walk away from Joshua. "I- Wait, Ben, where are you going?" Joshua questioned, reaching out to grab his friend's paw. The second he made contact, however, Ben whipped around and glared at Joshua, freezing him into place. "Do you even realize what you just did?" Ben's voice was shaking, and Joshua realized with a pit growing in his stomach, that there were tears in Ben's eyes. "Those glasses were from my mother. My mother who I cannot see anymore, because her caravan left. This was all I had left as a gift from her. And now look at them, broken! Thanks to you," Ben snarled out the last sentence, causing Joshua to fully grasp the reality of the situation. "Ben, I'm sorry, I didn't mean-"
"I don't care!" Ben snapped, roughly wiping a fallen tear off of his cheek. "Joshua, I do not care what you have to say to me. I don't want to hear it, none of it! Because guess what?" Ben took another step closer to Joshua, leering down at him. Josh's heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. "They're gone now. This was a memento of my mother, and it's gone." A low growl started to emerge from Ben's clenched teeth, making Josh subconsciously lean back. "This is your fault." Ben slowly enunciated, drawing out each word. "Thanks for nothing, Joshua." And with that, Ben spun on his heel and started stalking away, shoulders visibly trembling.

Josh sat in silence for a few moments, before looking down at the glasses that Ben left behind. Slowly, he picked up both halves, holding them together as if they weren't broken at all for a brief moment, before giving up and dropping his arms to his side.
Ben was his closest friend. Hell, could be considered his only friend. Josh hasn't had friends since the Buzzy Kibbees, and even then they had mostly all gone their separate ways since the Hootenanny. He only had Ben to rely on these days, and today he shattered their friendship, all for some attention and a dumb joke.
...Wow.
He really messed this up, huh?
No wonder he didn't have any friends.
