Description Let them keep their slabs of fortune and safety-

there is fine reason
we listen to songs
    that make us sad.

Looking back at this, I'm not so fond of the language I used, but it carries the message pretty clearly in a small place, so I'm not going to touch it. I might try and capture the same thing in a different way later though. :j

I'm glad you got the poem.

I am a sucker for the concise, well-written, well-conceived micro poem, and this one succeeds beautifully. Each of the lines is nicely laid out--the longer, dismissive first line, and then the shorter lines which all perfect breaks.

Damn. Fast smiple. And yet incredabily complex at the same time. You are saying that humans wish to have something to feel bad about? Thats what I got out of it. I love the ideas you put in here. In four lines you mananged to shake peoples minds. Very good. Well written, short, and great ideas.... damn... Very well done.

Don't drop the ball,
they said to my stanchion,
flaying the earth with the tips of their ties,

But we know how

Pregnant with the crepuscule
Hotter than them.

i find that short poems are often much better than ones that last for pages because they get right to the point. such is the case with this one. congrats on the DD!

Oh, gosh.
I looked at this and said, "It's so short. Which means it must be amazing."
Being a DD and all.
Can't say I was disappointed; I'm amazed, truly amazed. So much meaning in so few words.

Clear & concise. This should be spray-painted on a wall in the middle of town.
If it was, I think it would become my favourite piece of graffiti - even above "Why aren't you DANCING?"

Four lines, & you say all there is to be said.
TALENT.

Daaarling. This makes way more sense to me at the moment than I'd like it to. Uncomfortably so. See, sometimes it's the other way around - you (well, I, actually) aren't completely sure whether something is what you want or what people think you should want or what you might want want but are afraid to get 'cause... ah. And then I stop and realise one of those things you mean by your last two lines and go "oh, that's what it really is". You know what I mean 'tis is a good poem, love. Don't know whether I like it this much because of what I'm feeling right now or for anything else, but recently I've grown really attached to bits of loosely packed sustance like this - poems that stay with me a while.

It's like you take the world and sum it up into a little handful of marbles. And even though we can't see all of them, you describe them for us in a way that is short, sweet, beautiful, and thought invoking. Grrr - I really like your style. (That was a good grr, by the way.)

It's so true though. You can't allow people to tell you what to do, because you'll only be hurt. And if you let them - you can't expect anything more than hurt.

Actually, I've always been of the opinion that people enjoy being sad and listen to songs that make them so. Simply because they know they haven't reached that certain point in their life they want to reach, and untill that point, people will always feel bad for themselves. I say look for that point in your life, and stop being self absorbed!! But I end up looking away from the mirror.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MyBlankPages In reply to 2mo [2006-04-08 19:23:15 +0000 UTC]

actually I think listening to sad music when you're sad is inherently not self-absorbed. It's about reassurance, because you imagine the person singing the song has been through the exact same thing as you, making your own sadness somewhat more... justifiable to yourself. something like that anyway.
