I am happy to see you branching out into photo-manipulation. I am regularly sending newer photographers to your site because you exemplify creativity in photography. What is so unusual to see is creativity at so many different levels, compositionally, conceptional, color, technique, and message. It is a natural progression for your creative mind to branch out further.
You have blended all of the elements exceptionally well. The concept and composition is also excellent. On the critique side, there is a problem with your light source(s) and shadows.
In photo-manipulation, you are either inside accepted reality, stretching accepted reality, or outside accepted reality. One thing I like to see consistently held to is light and shadow. Light sources and shadows should match.
If you look at the line of shadow cast by the being, the shadow cast by the top of the shell onto the downward sloping dune on the right, and the other dunes, it gives a light source from the upper left, at about 20° above the horizon (fairly shallow). However, the brightly reflected area on the upper and lower front of the shell is actually way too bright for the angle of the light source. The total light is high for being able to see stars, but I can easily stretch for that one.
This piece is exciting. I really hope you do more.
