Description     The sun shined brightly that morning as the Survey Corps headed out into the titan infested plains inside wall Maria not a single cloud could be seen in the sky and it was the clearest it had been the last few days and Erwin decided it was the day they would be going out to beyond wall Rose.  Everyone was ready in a few hours which impressed the squad leaders and it gave them time to double check the gear was working and had all they needed for this mission.  Adalee stood with her friends with Elsa sitting beside her preoccupied with watching several scouts fooling around.  She yawned and laid down and rested her head on her paws completely forgetting that she was wearing her saddle and bridle still beside her handler and hadn’t left her side since she was brought her out of her stall that morning.  The tokota was wearing all the needed gear for this mission and she knew it was going to be the farthest they had ever gone and into the forest of the giant trees.  Adalee saw the others starting to climb into their saddles awaiting instruction from the higher ups and she gently tapped Elsa’s side getting her to stand up once more.  She checked her cinch and swung her reins over her mount’s head before climbing up into her saddle making sure her 3D Maneuver Gear didn't get tangled up as she did so.  She sat straight in the saddle waiting for instruction patiently, “Easy now” she said as she felt Elsa shift under her nervously, “We have a long ride ahead of us in uncharted territory so we must be on our guard.”  Varrick also climbed into his saddle and stood beside Elsa and Adalee ready to line up with the others and head out into the unknown which made him nervous since the loss of his friend Johnathan 4 weeks ago. Many of the scouts were already on their mounts wearing their cloaks proudly and suddenly Erwin rode up causing everyone to line up side by side on tokota or horseback saluting to him with their left fist over their hearts and right arm behind their back.  He looked at all of his scouts and addressed them with the mission and what was ahead of them, “We’re going into the forest of giant trees and it will be harder to detect titans from there so be on your guard. The ride is the longest of all the missions and we will be using the long distance formation and once we reach the forest we have to stick together and take out as many titans as we can and make sure that we come home safely that means watch the back of the rider beside you. It could mean life or death” he said, “Now let’s move out!”  He turned away and the rest of the scouts moved into a column like formation in the street waiting for everyone to line up and the carts to assemble in the middle where they were guarded by the scouts around them. Adalee and Varrick stayed together as they started to move toward the large gates of the city and there were people gathered on the edge of the main street wishing the scouts a safe return though it wasn’t guaranteed that any of them would come home safely or even alive. Many lives had been lost over the years when the titans had breached the walls and Erwin was determined to end the reign of terror.  Elsa snorted snorted as they trotted in the column formation fully geared up to travel and take down titans to last several days without running out.

Adalee whistled to keep her tokota’s mind on her and the task they had ahead in which Elsa’s ears swiveled back listening to her rider.  Varrick rode beside them strangely quiet which Adalee wondered if it was out of nerves, “Varrick are you alright you’re really quiet this morning” she said looking at him gracefully posting in her saddle. He looked at her, “Just nervous and ready to avenge Johnathan not many people come back alive.” He said sighing, “What about you? You seem calm and collected.”  She gazed at him, “Well I know it will be okay because I trust my tokota and I know that she will do everything she can to make sure that I am safe.” She said stroking Elsa’s fur with her hand.  As they approached the gates they stopped to wait for the gate to be opened allowing them to gallop into the Karanese District which had been breached by titans five years before and that made Adalee nervous.  She grabbed a handful of Elsa’s mane along with her reins so she had a better grip in case the tokota spooked just as they made out outside of wall Rose into the plains making Elsa giddy with excitement but was held back by her rider until they moved into the formation.  “Now into the Long –Range Scouting Formation!” he shouted holding out his arm giving them the signal to spread out into the formation allowing Adalee to speed Elsa up followed by Varrick on Orkid.  The two riders spread out away from the others along the edge to scout for titans making sure to notify the others that one had been spotted with a red flare.  Adalee loosened the reins and urged Elsa forward allowing the tokota to speed up into a faster pace in which Varrick matched as they galloped far from the others now fully out of sight from the rest of the formation.  Several titans were spotted in the distance and Adalee grabbed a flare then fired it into the sky sending a streak of red that could be seen for miles and after it others rose into the air giving the command the signal to change directions to avoid them.   They turned in the new direction urging their tokotas ahead keeping the reins loose enough to allow them to accelerate without losing control.  Another titan charged toward them not giving Adalee enough time to avoid it so she engaged her 3D Maneuver Gear and blades launching herself off of Elsa’s back and into the air as if she was flying.   She shot straight up with the help of her gear and then somersaulted down blades raised slashing the titan’s nape perfectly sending it crashing down behind her after she landed on the ground barely breathing hard not realizing that the blades had shattered after they made impact with the titan’s neck. After discarding the broken blades Adalee whistled and Elsa appeared in front of her with Varrick trotting beside her, “Great job I don’t think that titan knew what hit him” He joked just as she climbed back into her saddle, “Yeah I guess you’re right and we should rejoin the formation.” Adalee turning her mount into the direction they had been traveling before the titan charged them.

Varrick rode beside her as they galloped through the plains looking for titans feeling the wind blow against her face and through her cloak making it flutter behind them and she let go of the reins holding her arms out like she was flying eyes closed always wanting to do that.  Elsa snorted as the pressure was taken off of the reins but remained at the same pace not wanting to lose her rider out of the saddle.  He smiled at her warmly as she regained her composure and grabbed the reins once more and urged Elsa forward with a gentle tap of her heels against the tokota’s sides. The tokota sped up and her stride lengthened covering more ground then before causing Varrick to catch up with her on Orkid making the two a grey, black and green blurs moving across the plains. Up ahead of them two titans were spotted and didn’t seem to notice them right away until Varrick shot off a red flare. The two riders quickly avoided the titans which were now chasing them, “We have to engage them Adalee before they take us out!” Varrick shouted and the two nodded in agreement before engaging their maneuver gear and take the titans down.  Twenty minutes later the titans came crashing down and Adalee whooped in victory holding her blades up in which both tokotas howled joining the victory celebration. "I think we should get moving" she said putting her blades back and got into her saddle and looked into the distance, "C'mon we have a job to do." She smiled at him and Varrick quickly mounted his tokota and they turned to the direction they needed to go.   The tokotas surged forward into a fast pace back in their positions and galloped forward just as their riders spotted the giant trees in the distance and stopped to get a look around for any incoming titans that might be heading their way but none was spotted until streaks of red could be seen east of them and finally a green one toward them.  Adalee and Varrick smiled at each other before riding down the hill in a leisurely trot then to a gallop to regroup with the rest of the scouts before heading into the Forest of Giant Trees.  Evon and Geneva joined them, “So how is it out there?” they asked as they got off their horses to let them graze. “Well we took out several titans and our tokotas were wonderful” Adalee said as she dismounted and loved on Elsa rewarding her for doing a good job.  Elsa whined wanting more of it, “Okay okay here you go.” Adalee said pulling out a treat for her in which the tokota gobbled it up quickly and looked for more.  The scouts rested and had lunch letting their horses and tokotas rest after hours of galloping and avoiding titans.  Adalee sat with her friends as well as Armin, Jean, and Petra who shared stories of taking out titans and joked with one another.  She smiled at them as they ate their sandwiches and leaned against her tokota who laid down behind her snoozing in the sun.

Armin smiled as Eren and Mikasa walked up to them, “Eren, Mikasa this is Adalee she’s one of the elite scouts and gets to ride those really cool tokotas” he said showing them Elsa and Orkid sleeping beside their riders though they were completely alert. “Well it was up to the higher ups to decide whether I was allowed to have a tokota after all there are only 12 of them right now” she said, “To me they are similar to a horse but a bit more agile.” Elsa yawned and lifted her head as Mikasa gently held her hand out to her to pet the tokota on the head and was greeted with a lick and moved closer so she could feel the soft fur, “She’s so soft and gentle” she said smiling and pulled Eren over to love on her as well.  Eren looked nervous for a moment then ran his hand through her thick fur and then hugged the tokota around the neck burying his face into it, “I really like her Adalee and I’ve seen the way you ride and fight titans” he said, “You’re really talented”  Adalee blushed, “Well thanks it’s nothing after the countless hours of training and riding into the face of danger of being killed by titans” she said, “I’ve seen enough soldiers lose their lives out on missions."  She grabbed Elsa’s reins and whistled causing the tokota to stand up quickly and saluted as Erwin walked over to them.  Elsa stood calmly by her rider’s side with her head down saluting in her own way. “You’re very good out there” Erwin said to Adalee, “I hear you have 14 solo titan kills and I would like to promote you to a squad leader and a member of the Special Operations Squad if it’s alright with Levi." Just as he mentioned his name Levi walked over to them, “You called commander” he said looking at Adalee head to toe, “this is the scout you were talking about?” Erwin nodded, “Yes she’s one of the tokota riders and has 14 titan kills” he said. “I was hoping you could allow her into your squad I'm sure she will prove herself to you Captain I’ve seen her ride her tokota and take the titans down.”  Levi crossed his arms, “Fine but first she and her tokota have to prove themselves in front of my squad before she can join us” he said as they started to get ready to head the rest of the way to the Forest of Giant trees.   Adalee nodded, “I’ll my best to show you that we’re worthy of being in your squad Captain Levi Sir” she said as she climbed onto her saddle. Varrick looked up at her, “Well good luck joining the Special Operations squad” he said hoping the best for his friend as he got up on to Orkid’s back into his saddle riding beside Adalee.  Elsa turned her head toward Adalee whining nervously unsure of how to prove themselves to Levi and Erwin that they were worthy of becoming a member of the special operation squad. “Easy now girl we’ll find a way to show them how good we are” she said rubbing behind her tokota’s ears. Erwin shouted to them to move into position and be on their guard because it was harder to spot titans in the forest.  Erwin shouted to them to move into position and be on their guard because it was harder to spot titans in the forest.

She sighed and lined up next to Varrick grabbing a hanful of Elsa’s mane in her hand to steady herself in the saddle making sure to keep her heels down and balls of her feet in her stirrups.  Elsa tossed her head growling a bit feeding off of the horses in front and behind her in the column knowing that Levi was watching her closely this mission and she did her best to not think about it and continue doing what she did best-killing titans.  Erwin ordered the outer edge of the column to stay at the edge and keep the titans away but ordered Adalee and Varrick to go with Captain Levi to protect Eren and show her skills to the squad.  The squads separated and galloped into the forest with great speed while the others fought off the titans that charged them. Adalee urged her tokota forward after Eren and Levi as a titan charged them only two other scouts engaged it so the others could escape.  She had to hold the tundra tokota back to stay with the group just as another titan bared down on them, “I’ll take it!” Adalee shouted to Levi and handed the reins to Petra and launched from Elsa’s back with her 3D maneuver gear and engaged her blades taking the titan alone.  She swung up above it and flipped downward blades ready then struck with precision slicing the nape of the neck and it came crashing down as she followed the group with the other two scouts using their gear to swing through the trees.  Elsa was being led by Petra as her rider fought off attacking titans, but she feared for Adalee’s safety even when she was one of the best soldiers.  Adalee appeared with Gunther and Eld behind her and she landed into her saddle in which Petra gave her the reins back, “Good job!” she said smiling at her, “I think you’ll do great in our squad” She just smiled, “Thanks Petra I hope Levi is impressed with my skills.” Adalee said sighing after replacing her blades back into her holsters and galloped with them. The group rode through the forest fighting off titans that charged after them.  Soon the group rejoined the others and stopped to refill their gas and rest their horses and tokotas before heading back to the walls.   A group of titans found them and charged only to have Adalee already in the air and slashed the napes of two of them before launching herself into the air and came down taking out the rest without a scratch on her.  She landed on her feet gracefully just as the last titan fell behind her in front of the entire squad staring in disbelief that she took on all 5 titans on her own not needing any help.  Levi and Erwin both walked up to her as she rewarded Elsa for working so hard on the mission and keeping her safe, “Soldier Novak we would like to speak with you with the rest of the Special Operations squad” Levi said following Erwin who led them away from the rest of the Survey Corps to talk to her privately.

"I would like to welcome you and your tokota to the Special Operations Squad for your extraordinary skills” Levi said looking bored as usual, “Congratulations.” When they finally returned Adalee led Elsa by the reins with the members of Levi’s team by her side looking happy that she had been approved by Levi and Erwin to move up in rank. Her friends ran to her, “So what did they talk about and did you get accepted?” Evon asked excitedly, “I knew you and Elsa would do it you two deserve it!”  The tokota held her head up high proudly making Adalee smile, “Thanks Evon! We both earned it” she said stratching behind Elsa’s ears making her lower her head so she could get more.  Adalee watched commander Erwin got everyone’s attention and announced how they were going to get home, “We’ll be using the same formation as we used coming here” he said getting on to his horse followed by Eren and the rest who protected him. Levi allowed Adalee to remain on the edge since she was more effective by keeping the titans away from the center of the column with Varrick.  Everyone got on to their mounts and moved into their positions riding together side by side in a trot then into a gallop following Erwin into the plains leaving the Forest of the Giant trees behind and heading home.  “Now into the formation” Erwin shouted and everyone along the edges spread far apart allowing Adalee and Elsa to speed up disappearing from view of everyone else to look for titans heading toward them.  She loosened the reins on Elsa but not enough to lose control and charged forward whooping and looked back to see Varrick and Orkid right behind them.  The two scouts didn’t see any titans ahead or behind them so they pushed on in a full gallop only seeing the dust from the command miles away.  A titan appeared ahead of them and they separated and ran past the titan firing off a red flare into the sky and it was followed by others as it went down the line eventually getting to the command making him decide to change direction.  Adalee looked behind her for more red flares but saw none in the two hours that had past which was strange and made her nervous and Elsa more nervous.  Varrick rode up beside them, “It’s weird we haven’t seen very many titans on our way back as we did when we were riding through before” he said scanning the vast plains and the wall could be seen in the distance which relieved him, “I see the wall we’re getting close!”  Wall Rose was getting closer just as a group of titans charged them forcing the two engage them together able to get three taken down and the last one proved difficult in which it nearly swatted Adalee out of the air but she managed to take the titan out with careful precision. She landed on the ground with a skid shaken but uninjured whistling for Elsa to return to her in which she did allowing her to climb back into the saddle and ride off again with Varrick beside her, “That was too close” she said urging the tokota forward again but moved toward the column once more once more glad to be heading home again.  The other riders moved together again in a long line as they rode through the massive gates bells ringing loudly to announce their return. Once inside everyone headed back to the stables to let their mounts rest especially after that mission which was hard, long and exhausting.  Adalee and Varrick removed their tack and took their tokotas to their stalls in which they quickly crashed and fell asleep which they completely deserved. The two joined the others in the mess hall for dinner and talk about the day’s mission and how it went.
