Description DM: you enter a room, once built well but now it seems to be slowly falling apart from neglect. shining in the hallway light, a treasure chest grabs your attention. what would you like to do .. search for traps, perhaps?

Player: meh, i'm a level 3 barbarian with 17 constitution & i'm wearing my anklets of +1 fortitude. i go over and break open the lock with my staff..

DM: hmm sure thing roll, you silly fool !

Dungeon Crawl Contest Entry
which can be found here [link]
to be honest, i've only played bioware D&D games so i'm not quite sure if a barbarian would be able to spot a trap, unless you invested every point into that skill from start. probably depends on the trap again.

Art fluff

this took roughly 8-10 hours over 1.5 weeks. funny enough the environment took the longest.

trying something different b&w

c&c always welcome

Holes in the floor=classic spike trap. Dead giveaway! I have played enough video games to know how things like this work and what they look like. This noob is about to get impaled.

I see holes on the ground. Maybe spikes will jet out of those holes? Is that the trap?

thanks Rachta. lighting seems to be the most difficult to do (for me anyway)

For me too actually. My painting didn't seem to have any kind of light source. It's just that recently I've been forcing myself to take lighting into account. XD This work looks great ^.^ Keep it up!

amazing draw, and i know a lot of barbarians who would do the same don t worry. As for being able to spot traps, every player can spot a trap with a dc of 20 or minor by search skill. But only a rogue can search and disarm a trap. :3

yeh, i tend to see barbarians with high constitutions as pretty much a meat shield.

your entry shows a lot of detail well done also.

you're welcome

i always wanted to play pnp but not having friends with either time or interest in it makes it difficult. are there any online groups who play via skype or conferencing [might be a bit out there]?

Very cool! I like the shadows and use of darkness here. I certainly feel the scene and the characters' willingness to get the treasure. For such a dark piece I see alot of detail work was done.

BTW, I like your two directional sig and date on this piece.

thanks for the words LB. always good to see your view on things. the detail took a bit of time to put in, but i think it was worth it.
