Description
Mont Granier (1,933m) is a limestone mountain located between the départements of Savoie and Isère in France. It lies in the Chartreuse Mountain range of the French Prealps between the towns of Chapareillan and Entremont-le-Vieux. Its east face that you see here overlooks the valley of Grésivaudan and Combe de Savoie, and the north face overlooks Chambéry. At 900 meters tall, Mont Granier has one of the highest cliffs in France.

The missing piece in the photo fell in May, 2016 from the east face. It looks like the larger piece to the left could fall at any time. This is nothing though compared to the great landlide of 1248.

Remember the night of November 24, 1248.
The north face came tumbling down on an estimated 5000 victims below.
On the lower left of the photo you can see a smaller rock slide dating from May 2016.
