P.s
How are the Faverolles??
I've seen them before and was curious as to how they are behavior-wise/egg production/foraging.
They are really gorgeous birds and I was curious to hear your opinion on them
I'm trying to find a good mix of birds that have good feed conversion ratio, foraging skills, and good dispositions. Egg laying ability too was something I was looking at.
My FiancΓ© works for a farm right now and I was wanting to start up a breeding program so they wouldn't have to keep buying chicks from outside sources. The chickens we have right now are all organic free range birds.
Some of the chickens we have are:
Bard Rocks, Ameraucana's, Silver and Golden Laced Wyandots, Black Australorp's, Production Red's, Black Stars, Red Stars, Speckled Sussex, Buff Orpington's, and a type of Rock Cross.
I feel like they could save a lot more money on feed if they started focusing on breeds that were much better at foraging, and had a better feed conversion ratio. Though trying to get Ryan's boss to take a chance with other breeds he is not familiar with is very difficult.
So any feed back on this breed and others would be very helpful!
Sorry for all the writing >_<

Well the ones my mom had were not very good egg layers, even though that's why we got them. We've had better luck with New Hampshire Reds, and surprisingly, my fancy Phoenix hens have been the longest living, best egg layers we've had (their eggs are tiny though).
As for foraging I don't really know, our chickens spend most of their time outside of the coop, but we feed them regularly every day.

Yeah, the faverolles are very pretty but they are lousy egg layers.

Weeell, that all depends on where you have it...I wouldn't want a chicken living in my house, they're smelly and roosters are loud. Outside though...you just need a good secure space for them and they tend to take care of themselves as long as you feed them. Cats and dogs have different maintenance levels, I don't know what I'd compare a pet chicken to.

Those are pretty birds, big though. We have a coop for ours. They're free range during the day.
