Yeah I took that image a number of years ago at the Kissimmee Air Show.

Nice shot! Almost cartoon like and fun until you look at the history of the Gee Bee, both in it's accomplishments and failures, it was an amazing aircraft.

I'll bet, they are unique aircraft, I did an illustration of the GeeBee Z City of Springfield: [link] I also did it in a 13th Bomb Squadron scheme for fun: [link]

Growing up in Cleveland and having the aviation disease, I have always been a great fan of the National Air Races. I have seen Delmar Benjamin do amazing things with this plane. Great picture Jim! We do have Roscoe Turner's Wedell Williams at the Crawford Museum.

I think it would have been very interesting to be a part of that era of aviation history.

It sure would! Roscoe's aircraft was restored by a friend of mine. I hear that there are replicas of that airplane out there as well, but I have not seen it, just pics. There are a couple of that era's racers still here in the Cleveland area, though none fly.

Delmar Benjamin. I guess he donated this to a museum. It was a privilege to see her fly for the short time we did. Never got to shoot it, though.
