Thank you. Ya I would like to try this again sometime, have you experimented with astrophotography before? It's fun!

What's that vertical streak just above the trees? A shooting star? Airplane? Hair on the negative?

I guess a shooting star would be too faint on such a long exposure. Maybe it's a UFO!
I've always wondered how you set a camera for an 85 minute exposure. Mine goes up to 30 seconds, my old manual camera went up to 2 seconds but had a manual function where the shutter would stay open for as long as you held down the release. Once I hooked up a shutter release cable to it and pointed it at the sky for about 15 minutes while I drank a few beers but it was a tedious business. The exposure came out with the stars performing a small jump across the sky but nothing like your picture. How do you keep the shutter open for so long?

I see. My camera was very old and the shutter release cable didn't have anything to hold it down without keeping it pressed down manually. Hence the tediousness. I experimented with trying to wedge it or tape it closed but it turned out to be more trouble than it was worth.

actually i thought 30sec exposure stars was noise at first, but then i took a closer look and was like "dude thats bad ass"
