Description Thinking back to the me who woke up
The daybreak after heartbreak
The girl who lay in bed, head pounding
Is nowhere to be found

Since those days when I thought I could never move on
Recalling the memory proved me wrong

I guess my fear was a lonely future
For that I’d held on his hands
Unsure of what my feelings spelt out
“It’s for his good,” I said

So that night when the words “Never mind,” sent and delivered
Consequently, that little hope I built crumbled into dust

Thinking back to when it first started
And how we ended up here
I like to think that you still love me
Yes, just a little bit

You’ll come back on your knees, pleading, and I’ll turn away
Only to give in if I heard you call my name again

Did I say something? Didn’t I try to understand?
Those questions piled up and weighed down my pillowcase

“Have a good night, hope you sleep well”
“Thank you, it was fun”
Waiting for a reply that would have returned you to me

Thinking back to the me who woke up
The daybreak after heartbreak
I became the gatekeeper of hell
No one could ever know

Looking into your eyes with a smile so wide
You and I, erased from history

Did I say something? Didn’t I try to understand?
Those questions I no longer ask because I know the answer

Those two humans, that dawn of day
Lost to the years gone by
Good morning to the me of today underneath a bluer sky
