Description Chehel Sotoun is a pavilion in the middle of a park at the end of a long pool, built by Shah Abbas II to be used for his entertainment and receptions. The name means "Forty Columns" in Persian. The twenty slender wooden columns supporting the entrance pavilion when reflected in the waters of the fountain, are said to appear to be forty. This is a detail of the ceiling.
