Description Second study for this months speedpaint study from the lovely

I feel I understood and captured the form of the arch a bit better than my last study... though I still need to work harder in observing!

Wasn't so much focused on the colour (like the last one) - just the main formation and trying to capture the rocks structure.

I made sure I experimented more on this one and in the end learned a lot more.

Time taken: 1 and a half hours.

Your version turned out a little more saturated than the original but I really don't mind that at all. Love your brush selection, it adds depth and detail without forcing you to spend too much time.Β

You could have imitated a little more detail, especially in the upper section, right from the centre of the picture, to add more interest, but it's just a detail and a matter of taste. Very nice work!

Thank you for the wonderful feedback! I have to agree, I could've put more effort into points of interest, like the top right section o:

Thanks again! Helping me see things in a new way!

I really love this, I suck at studies and am trying to do more to improve! Did you use the Jaime Jones brush set?

Great work

Thanks man ^ ^ , the point people miss about studies is that they don't apply what they learned from the study right away D: this goes for any type of study D: it's never about just blindly copying what you see, but trying to understand why things are the way they are ~

And yep, Jaime Jones brush set ftw!Β (;*Β΄Π”`)οΎ‰

Yep I know what you mean. I'm sure a lot of people colour pick too using the eyedropper, so they actually learn nothing about colour! Love the Jaime Jones brushes.

I came here to say the same thing ~yinetyang said..
The undetailed beauty of your painting is.. amazing!Β

I really wish i could do that. because i hate detail :c

Thanks John ~

Haha no point wishing when you can easily achieve this... with some blood, sweat and tears of course

But seriously, you can achieve anything you set your mind to - you've just gotta want it bad enough!

I'm really admirative by the way you keep the all painting undetailed but it works so well. I'm completely unable to do such a thing. Good job! Still could you say add in the description how long it took?

Thanks yinetang!

haha oh man, I still have a long way to go but I'll tell you now, I could hardly paint anything a year ago

Oh and done and done

I know the feeling I started about one year ago too and so much things to learn. Once again really cool to have you in the group, you'll make some great stuff I feel.

nice grain in it. did you made a layer over it at the end or does that grain come from your brushes?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

o-oRis In reply to Wolkenfels [2013-09-17 07:13:21 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man!

Some of the initial, more obvious grain came from some of the brushes I used, however - the overall grain came from using a noise layer set to overlay and masking out the parts I didn't want to use etc ~

Love the stoney texture on this, you captured the forms and the feeling very well. I just think the "noise" distracts a little bit, but that's just taste
