Even if it is a copy I love that SMLE

Also this girl seems awesome.

For a sketch this out-does a lot of "final products" out there. The colors are really nice and the work on the SMLE itself is amazing. Though around the stock does look a little twisted in a different direction it's still great work nonetheless.

Thanks! You're likely right about the warping on the SMLE; I drew it with a lot less care than I usually put into firearms (= a lot).

i odn't know why but i'm kinda sad looking at this drawing..., not many artists in DA draw current political conditions just like you did , i hope someday condition in there getting better

I try to be politically neutral, but I also like exploring interesting subjects that don't get a lot of attention.

One of my friend said we can choose a side but don't fabricate the fact however i choose to be neutral too in this case

I buy that cheap corrosive Greek crap, hahaha. Corrosive isn't that harmful as long as you clean right away and clean it well, which I do. If that gets too expensive then I will shoot my 7.62x54R more

Won't say too much but I also have a Tokerav, SKS, Model 10, Chilean Mauser, 1858 New Model Sharps, 1887 Winchester, and of course a gun almost everyone has an AK-47. Have any yourself?

Not at the moment; I can't, actually, since I'm in Japan, whose gun ownership laws make California seem like the Wild West in comparison. A Springfield Saint and a 870 that are currently in my girlfriend's possession, that's about it (because screw you, California).

Also, Sharps rifle?! Niiice.

Welp, civilians may not get firearms but apparently the Japanese mafia gets a crap ton no matter what. California and New York basically banned firearms and ammunition. It's really sad and I am glad I moved to Arizona. But hey, if your girlfriend owns guns that's great. You can send her out at night when you hear a noise in the backyard

Yeah, .54 caliber drop block sharps rifle with a double set trigger. Gotta make the rounds myself sadly. It was originally a .52 caliber but they changed it recently because too many people were falsely claiming theirs were originals after burying it for a few days in their backyards.

Yup, the Yakuza mostly use Type 54s and ancient revolvers. Some 1911s, apparently, possibly Chinese Norinco copies. Then there was one incident where they arrested an insurance fraudster and found a RPG-26 in a warehouse he owned.
But in general gun crime is practically negligible. Stabbings are more the vogue these days with the mentally-deranged / extremist / murderer community.

I have a friend in Arizona who seems to own virtually every firearm available to the US market. I was there for an archery tournament a few years back - beautiful state. Good backpacking.

Yeah, my girlfriend is the better shot at range I'm the faster draw, though.

beatles17 In reply to Nyandgate [2017-07-02 15:21:35 +0000 UTC]

The violence is still there though. Pisses me off when people think violence will end when guns are banned. Statistics also bug me. In the US, gun crimes also include crimes where the gun wasn't actually used or shot. Then with the statistics for shootings they include suicides and self defense cases which basically outweigh the crimes where guns are used to harm others. In England when guns were finally banned, home invasions sky rocketed and stabbings increase :/

Yeah, Arizona is pretty lenient with people owning firearms. Just if you shoot someone, even in defense, it will screw you over if it isn't done right which I am hoping to learn next year when I'm 21 for my conceal carry. One thing I love about this state is that even if you are not carrying, at least 5 other people are. Usually it is the good people too unlike LA where I came from where the gangs had firearms and the good people did not. The state is really beautiful. We have the most lush desert in the world apparently too since we have two monsoon seasons which allows for more vegetation growth. Where I live there is basically nothing to do but to shoot and hike. Or both

Doesn't matter if you're the quicker draw if you can't shoot straight, right? Gotta brush up on that man. And for some reason it is usually females who are better shots with pistols.

Very true, that. A while back in Tokyo a nutcase went on a rampage, at which point the police finally got permission to draw their weapons. Jeez.

I haven't had a chance to go packpacking in Arizona, although I plan to. I did Utah (Bryce and Zion) a while back and crossed the Rockies for my graduation trip. Arizona is up there along with PCT for a next project.

I should elaborate on the last bit; I'm the better shot with pistols overall. She wins on rifle. Also, I'm still abysmal on first hit accuracy with a double action trigger. Too spoiled by 1911s and Glocks.

beatles17 In reply to Nyandgate [2017-07-02 22:58:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. In France there were two gunmen about a year ago. No one was able to protect themselves. Another case is where 15 British policemen ran away from a man with a sizable knife. No real way to defend themselves or take him down unless they grew a pair and charged him.

Well, I am gonna be backpacking a lot here soon thanks to ROTC. Kind of dreading it, not much of a hiker lol. Apparently some foreign olympians come to AZ to train somewhere up in Flagstaff for cross country. Good elevation, especially if you put on one of those elevation masks too. That'll really train your lungs. PCT?

I usually hit my first shot with my Model 10 and Tokerav. My Vaquero (single action revolver) I miss the first but hit the rest of the five shots. That one I usually set up 3-4 different targets and switch in between shots, really fun that way. My Makarov I can't hit shit with haha. I need more practice with the 9x18. I guess I can hit center mass from 20 yards away but the grouping is really off. Tbh, I don't like the 1911 a lot, maybe because I am in love with my Tokerav...

I'm really not surprised that you'd be in ROTC. I would surmise that if you're not much of a hiker, they'll be darn sure to make you one before too long

Actually, I -know- Olympians go to Arizona to train, since I've literally shot next to them as a collegiate athlete in target archery. I was never particularly good, mind you, but archery is the kind of small world where a bit of proficiency can have you standing between two gold medalists. My team even got tailgated by the Italian squad that won the London Olympics team rounds.

PCT = Pacific Crest Trail. Basically down the entire Pacific coast of North America from Canada to just north of Mexico.

I'd be amused if you -could- get good accuracy with the Makarov. Short sight radius? (Also, that reload is impossible to do quickly.)

Heh, yeah kinda been my life goal since I was a kid. If I am not in shape by then (which I am trying to get into, lost nearly 20 ibs) they will definitely kick my ass into shape. I don't mind hiking, just wouldn't go out of my way to do it much.

That's awesome dude. Bet you learnt a thing or two from them, hm? And leave it to Italians to tailgate.

Yeah, the reload isn't the worst thing but it is annoying. Definitely not a firearm I would depend my life on. Even though it probably would never malfunction, the accuracy isn't the greatest. The Makarov is such a small pistol it might be short sight radius but I think its just that I am not that used to the gun. The biggest thing I think for now is practice. The 9x18 is such a dorky round I wouldn't doubt if it was that itself that caused the inaccuracy. It's a Romanian Makarov, by the way. One of the nice version though so it shouldn't be that hard to get good at. Just can't practice right now since we are not allowed to shoot out in the national forests due to fire alerts. Monsoons, please come... I have 500 rounds of Nagant wanting to be shot

I grew up with a lot of military families, so I definitely understand the appeal. Dated a NROTC cadet, but that's another story entirely.

One of the funniest experiences from that tournament was watching the aforementioned Italian team and some Frenchmen looking at the cereal bar at the local Holiday Inn with abject horror. Sorry monsieur. No crepes and croissants here

If I recall correctly, the Makarov is a miracle of mechanical efficiency, with everything operated by one flimsy leaf spring in the grip. Durable and easy to produce. Easy to use and/or high performance? Maybe not so much. It's so very Russian; they evidently think of ergonomics as a decadent Western Imperialist luxury

I feel like Romanian and Bulgarian copies of Soviet-era weapons tend to be higher-quality than the actual Russian arsenal-produced variants. I seem to recall that Kalashnikov himself preferred Bulgarian copies. I'm personally quite fond of the Hungarian AMD-65 (I'll draw it eventually), although its ergonomics are, um, awkward at best.

That explains your knowledge on firearms and military topics. I grew up in a family of military and law enforcement so I always wanted to be a soldier. I was going to enlist in the Army but I was talked into AROTC. A Navy chick hm?

Silly French, they were probably looking for frogs

Most Russian weapons are durable and simple in design. They may be lower quality than other nations but they definitely get the job done. I actually like Russian style firearms. I honestly prefer the AK over the AR as long as it's made well. The thing I despise about most AKs though is the small stock and, in my experience, loose sights that move after every few shots. Once you fix the sights though, or know what you are doing, it is a very accurate rifle on semi automatic fire. I just threw on a collapsible sock, a new synth forestock and a forward grip, and a scope because I am too lazy to fix the damn sight. With the scope, I can still use the iron sights. I should sight it for 200 yards maybe... My Mosin-Nagant is Russian made, but my Tokerav and AK are Romanian. My Makarov is a Bulgarian commercial model so it's a higher end model. None of my Russian style firearms ever failed on me except for my Tokerav, and that was a magazine problem.

Funny how Russian satellites had better models than they did at times, huh?

That, and I've also been big on shooting things (bows, guns, my mouth) since I was a Cub Scout Yeah, my Navy chick dumped me to go serve on a destroyer. I kinda can't blame her? Serving on a guided-missile destroyer sounds really cool, to be honest.

Yeah, I can't stand the factory sights on an AK. They occupy a lot of space in the field of view, too. If (when?) I get one, the first thing I'll do will be to swap out the gas tube for an UltimAK railed tube so I can scout-mount a PRO or T1 or something.

One thing I like doing on the rare occasions that I watch the news is to play guess-the-AK-copy with all of the Middle Eastern paramilitary and military forces. The Afghan national police famously uses AMDs and AIMs. The various militias use everything from Type-56s (yawn) to MPI-KMs to Tabuks to M70s. I dunno what the heck Hamas and Hezbollah think they're doing but I can barely recognize their frankenguns as AKs sometimes.

You can't blame her too bad, homie. 1) She is serving and 2) A GUIDED MISSILE DESTROYER!!!

I love iron sights and prefer to use them. Scopes are a hassle but It is needed for the AK and I am ashamed... I will have to adjust it and flood it with locktight probably. My gpa doesn't have any problems with his all American AK. Maybe other countries just hate AK sights? Hahaha.

What I love doing if I ever see a news article on a shooting or something involving firearms that the liberal media uses to try and ban guns is to guess what the gun really is. They call AKs an AR-15, they call AR-15s high powered assault rifles, and an SKS a freakin AR-47 or some shit. Then all pistols are Glocks. This pic is a joke but it is honestly accurate how the news media portrays guns 3.bp.blogspot.com/-sK4XW4F9qWA…

I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't be using optics if you're incapable of shooting with ironsights. In the same vein, I used to think that only stick-shift counts as real driving. Now that I've seen what horrors a teenager with a birthday-gift Prius can perpetuate, I know that only stick-shift counts as real driving. Unfortunately the vast majority of the driving populace seems to disagree with me. Sigh.

I do recall an acquaintance having to secure his AMD front sight with Loctite 222. In my experience, though, the AK-type front sight tends toward being way too stiff. Mileage may vary?

The news media go-to lately seems to be 'assault-type firearm.' Yah okay. If I assault you with a 10/22, presumably the 10/22 is an assault-type weapon. I mean, really?
But recall that most journalists are probably East Coast self-proclaimed elites from rich families and preppy universities, and the firearm illiteracy makes a lot of sense. I had the displeasure of going to school with a few of those types and I personally loathe their guts.

Also, in all fairness, I feel like these days all pistols are Glocks, seeing as everyone and their mother has one. Yeah they're idiot-proof and lightweight and high-capacity and whatnot, but... urgh.
You can probably tell I like my firearms to have heft? Glocks are boring. I want a CZ75 pls.

beatles17 In reply to Nyandgate [2017-07-06 22:02:04 +0000 UTC]

If you can't shoot with iron sights then you shouldn't learn how to use a scope. Makes you incompetent without iron sights, a reason the military refuses to let standard soldiers use any form of optics other than iron sights unless your MOS calls for an optic such as a company sniper. I am currently learning how to drive manual for my job. I feel the standards for driving these days are just too low.

Don't know. Every company makes their AKs differently. I just wish they made uniform sights that work

I went to school and still go to school with people who know nothing about firearms. If its black, its dangerous. There was a study done by LouderWithCrowder where he went into a relatively anti gun community with displays of different kinds of firearms. They wanted to ban a black 10/22 and an AR-15 but didn't mind the .308 wood Hunting Rifle. But they saw the bullets (they didn't know which gun it went to) and they wanted to ban the .308 but keep the .223. They base everything on aesthetics. Most anti gun people, at least here in the US, use no logic.

Glocks are great firearms. Dependable, light, and accurate as long as you yourself are a good shot. But I am with you on that, I'd rather a heavier firearm to back me up. Heavier caliber too. Thought honestly, I prefer revolvers over all. Fewer moving parts means less chance of malfunction, no ejection system as an automatic would so no stove piping, and you can whack someone over the head with the barrel and it would still work as for an automatic the slide may malfunction.
