Consider this a lesson in complementary and analogous colors.

It's pretty much the entire reason I chose the colors and setting I went with. The raincoat was yellow, so I wanted a lot of purple in the background to go with it.

Since there was really no realistic way to have all that purple back there, I went for a more stylized background. I made the umbrella and boots blue to blend them better with the greys and purples, because I wanted the raincoat, and the girl's legs and face to stand out most.

But I wanted to do up something a little different from my normal fare this time. And in some ways this looks a bit like the drawings I used to do years ago when I first started coloring digitally, but with about 8-9 more years of practice and experience applied to it.

My inspiration is pretty straightforward: it's Spring. So, it's been raining quite a bit the last couple weeks, and I love rainy spring days. I was originally thinking of having the raincoat either be clear, or opened up to show her with a swimsuit or something underneath, but I saw how the coat looked closed, and I thought it was really cute, so I kept it as it was.

Which works great, because I think for this one I prefer cute. It's raining pretty hard, and looks so cold and foreboding out there, but it still comes together well because her cuteness balances things out. ^_^
