I was just gonna have the story over on tumblr but I guess if any of you guys are actually up for reading this huge block of text I better have it over on dA too! I love how this turned out man, the soft colors and light is sorta my THING so it was a blast to draw heheh. Ok story time below the line, so you don't have to read any of the other stuff unless you wanna know a little bit of context for this picture!

"He shouldn't be involved in this." Rico glanced over to Oliver, who was leaning against the back of the seat, halfway asleep. His head was low and his eyes half lidded, bobbing with the movements of the shuttle as it cruised through the high airspace of Elian. Rico's eyes flicked over nervously to the monitor at the front, watching as the news headlines spelled out the whole reason why he had agreed to Oliver's crazy plan in the first place.

THIRD DIPLOMATIC REPRESENTATIVE ASSASSINATED THIS WEEK - MORE EVIDENCE EXPOSED?

  He watched for the fourth time as they went over the details, this time he didn't even have to hear the reporters to know what they were saying. Poisoned. Died in his sleep, apparent heart failure. Traces of deadly toxin found...Even when Rico was in the business, he left no trace - it was his signature. Anybody who ever had seen his work first hand would know that it wasn't him. And anyone who actually knew him would say that he's out of that line now, turned clean for good.

  Yet still word gets around fast, especially when you live on Nexo. And especially if there happens to be a juicy amount of skeletons that your friendly diner chef has in his closet.He didn't doubt it if half the travelers in the galaxy heard rumors about him in some way or another, and the way gossip likes to exaggerate things...

  One of Oliver's tails wrapped around the chef's leg mindlessly and then trailed off, curling in the air like it had its own will. Rico looked at Oliver again, noticing that now he was almost completely asleep, barely fighting it by opening his eyes slightly and sitting up a bit.

  Rico...didn't know what to think of him anymore. This was the man who would bust into his diner for "inspections" every week, ransacking his kitchen and leaving with half the food. The guy who couldn't even boil water without blowing something up. Yet when the space cop saw that his "shady cook" was in trouble...he didn't doubt for a moment that Rico had been framed and had jumped at the occasion to help him stay low for a while. He's harboring a fugitive , which is pretty severe, especially a suspect for diplomatic assassination. This was something that could start a war if the IE2NT doesn't handle it right. If Oliver was to be caught...he'd lose his rank along with any chances of earning it back.

Why would he risk everything for someone that's done nothing for him?

A sudden pressure on Rico's shoulder interrupted his brooding- Oliver had finally given up on staying awake and was now completely asleep, snoring softly. He tensed up for a moment, but then relaxed as slowly warmth began to spread through the side of his body. He unclenched his hands that had balled up while he was thinking, and looked out the other window. It was a nice day outside, the skies of Elian were blue and filled with puffy clouds. The moment was...pleasant, and honestly, he wouldn't mind if it went on forever.

That's all I need right now, he thought as he watched Oliver's chest move slowly with each breath. A moment of peace.

....aaaand then Anet's ship shows up and things get a bit more complicated haha. But that part of the story doesn't really fit with this image so we'll save that for another time!

Tl;Dr : so basically they're both sorta trying to lie low for a bit due to some assassinations that people are blaming Rico for. Which gives me an excuse to draw them together more.
