My thoughts on virginity aside, I hope she's alright... my prayers go out to her in earnest.

I am a virgin, and am proud to admit it. I believe the act of 'making love' is sacred and blessed, but unfortunately it is also the one act most easily perverted by society. Of course, that is nothing new; every ancient religion had a cult or subsection devoted to fertility.

The proof of its perversion is the fact that my thoughts are impure; no one's thoughts can be completely pure, but the inundation of sexual activity in the media (news: rape stories; shows: 'reality' shows, sitcoms, etc.; movies) shows that even the most religiously-inclined person (which I am not, given that I'm in my infancy as far as my walk with God goes) is not immune to such thoughts. What matters as far as thoughts go, though, is repentance and determination to think right thoughts (which is obviously followed by focusing on those right thoughts, as determination means nothing if not followed by action to follow that determination through).

I don't mean to be preachy or anything (that is the LAST thing I want to do); this is just my view as a growing man of faith who also knows what the world is like for teenagers and young adults.

For some reason I though the putting the word virginity is redundant. I liked to think about it myself without being told what it is. All the other words are super powerful. Such a powerful piece...

Hmmm, don't know what to think, it's her choice and her life.
But I always thought things like this were like.... undervalue yourself. Disrespect yourself...but that's just my point of view.

Anyway this is an awesome piece. It really is...the pure white, the blood stain, her sad look....I'm stricken

I wouldn't consider virginity SACRED like some people have said, but that fact is having sex for the first time is something you're going to remember for the rest of your life, and you should find someone you trust for the first time. Good luck to your friend if she's having any problems that would make her want to sell something like that.

First...This is such a beautiful and touching piece

And second....I think virginity is sacred, and the way it should be taken away is to a person that you really care about....It shouldn't be treated so lightly as some parts of society, and some people make it to be. It really does affect you, especially if you loose it in a way that you never intended...

This is a very beautiful picture.
I think over-all it was her choice, but in my opinion it is something she shouldn't have done. Virginity is something very precious that once you lose it, it's gone forever. I'm just glad that it was her choice and wasn't forced upon her. I hope she's okay.

Wow, thank you for giving me something to think about! When I saw this picture, I couldn't help but stare for a moment... it just looked like such a realistic situation.
I'm so sorry about your friend... I really hope things work out for her... I think you are a very good friend for showing your concern... I bet you could help her a lot... why not talk with her about your feelings? Of course ultimately it is her choice, but I think that concern and love like yours for your friend will certainly affect her and make her think about it, too ;-;
Here is to you and your friend feeling a lot better, I will keep your friend and you in my thoughts and prayers

Everyone has such a different situation that I feel that I, along with the rest of us, are not entitled to pass judgment on her, nor should we, who do not know her, have the audacity to decide what's important to her.

I think that if she needed to, why not?

Situation 1: She sold it to pay for her 5-year-old nephew's lifesaving surgery.
Situation 2: She sold it to get money for a purse.

No matter what the situation, do we really have any right to call her a strong girl or a dirty girl?

And does it make her any worse of a person or any lesser of a woman?

I don't think so, personally.

Either way, it truly is not our right to decide for HER what is important. "To lose such an important thing!" If she considered it so, then sure. But I don't know her- how would I know that her virginity is important to her? That is truly very arrogant of someone to say "I know what's best for her," unless you know her.

SakuraTenshi101 [2010-11-10 23:23:30 +0000 UTC]

Virginity is, overall, sacred. Everyone's BODY is sacred.

It's a person's choice to lose it, even though there are cases where it was forced upon them.

But to me, selling your virginity to someone, whether it be a random person or your (temporary, yes, temporary) "lover", just comes to show that those who decided to give their virginity to the other has absolutely no respect for the person and no self-respect for THEMSELVES.

It may or may not be the parents fault for not teaching their child (because maybe they have or they didn't realize that they should?), but in the long run, it was the child/person's choice and therefore, the fault falls mostly on their shoulders.

I've known people (mostly girls) who gave up their virginity and they usually regretted it right away or when they realized it wasn't what they wanted.

People usually give the excuse "it just happened," "I want him/her to be my first," or "I love him/her," etc.

For those who say "it just happened," they should be more cautious about being alone. They should be with the person in a group or in public since it doesn't provoke temptations.

For the others, that's not a real reason. Really. If you loved a person, you would want what's best for them and to help them, along with becoming someone more worthy of their friendship and becoming a better person rather than just trying to gain instant gratification. The one you love should inspire you to be your best and help them be their best. Not tempt you to give yourself to them or take their virginity away. Don't give in to temptations, because regret is what you'll get in the end!

In conclusion, all I'm saying is that it's smarter to wait until after marriage. It's safer, more respectable, and even more so meaningful. When you wait, you find a better spouse, because you'll realize what's good for you.

...Wow, that was a long rant! I apologize for that, but... well, you DID ask for thoughts? XD I hope I didn't offend anyone. If anything, I hope I made people open their eyes positively, even just a little.

I hope your acquaintance makes it through her trial and learns from it.

This is really sad...I felt like crying when I saw just this thumbnail.
Sex is supposed to be something special, not something one can just give away as a favor or token...
I hate that people become "prudes" if they want to wait for sex until marriage or even until they find someone special. It's like virginity is a grave evil, and it's not.

Anyway, this is a very beautiful, moving picture. The picture itself isn't out done by the emotion behind it, well done, Nio~

I suppose your virginity is your choice to give to someone you (should) care about, but if times change and you find someone else, or it is taken from you.. it's not as big of a deal.

It's one step, like any first. People shouldn't treat it like some kind of ending.

I blame her parents, What kind of world do we live in that a woman (or girl, I don't know how old she is...) thinks it is okay to sell something like that.

I don't know about men, but virginity is something very special to most women. It shouldn't be given away lightly, and that's what losing your virginity is, it's giving a part of you away to another person. That's what sex is, people these days have forgotten that. Sex isn't special to a lot of people anymore, it's really sad actually.

I'd think about trying to get her to open up, not in a prying way, in legitimate concern. Maybe ask her to explain her reasoning for doing it. In all honesty, I doubt that anyone can be okay with selling themselves. And rather than letting her stew about it and possibly feel worse, as someone who cares about it, you have the right to voice your concern.
