For 's contest
on the left is kyo and the right yuki from Fruit's Basket

Yuki and Kyo Sohma have a curse on them (along with the rest of their family) That when they're hugged by someone of the opposite gender they turn into a animal of the chinese zodiac. Kyo is a cat and Yuki is a Rat.
So the story is many, many years ago Budah called 13 animals to come to aget together to decide what year each zodiac animal would recieve. The rat was soppossed to tell the cat that the party was that night, but instead the decietful rat told the cat that it was the next night. So the cat fell asleep that night, while all the other animals were happily on their way to the party. the cat dreamt about the good time he would have the next day.
The rat rode on the ox's back the whole way there but at the entry, the rat jump off ahead of the ox and that's why the rat has the first year, but the poor cat has none.
that's why (in the manga/anime) Kyo and Yuki are always fighting. Kyo trains and trains to beat yuki to be accepted into the Zodiac family
