Description This is an 11x14 inch mechanical graphite pencil drawing of two of the most beautiful collies I've ever seen. Arwen is the one in front and Cormic is behind. Their owner was a *fantastic* help in letting me 'get to know' her dogs in a way that is difficult to do just through pictures. It took a good deal of tweaking and prodding at little details to get this right, but we finally did and I am very happy with the result.

If anyone's curious as to where these beautiful hounds come from, they belong to *TheWindWraith .

ETA: Thank you everyone for all of the nice comments! Time restraints make it hard to reply to each and every one, but I do want to let you know that I do read and appreciate them all. <3

It's done on smooth bristol board which is what I've always used for my portraits. I don't like paper texture and the bristol is the nicest surface I've found. Some people do like paper texture and work it beautifully into a drawing, which I always find very impressive and appealing...I just don't know how to do it myself LOL. To each his own I guess.
And thanks :]

Oke. thanks.
Yeah I made my newest drawing on textured paper pff it's very hard indeed. I'm allways doubting about what sort of paper I should use for a certain drawing. But this looks very cool so I'll use smooth paper haha
Thanks

I've always really loved this piece. It's just such a classical portrait and rendered beautifully. It's one of those pieces that wouldn't be the same if it were a photograph. Thanks for sharing!

im havin trouble with the shine whener i use pencil how do i get rid of it for darker areas , how do u get this picture for example to look so clean of shine

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nikkiburr In reply to 05slheas [2010-06-03 17:48:51 +0000 UTC]

Pencil is always going to have shine I think. Generally if you scan things rather than photogrpah them you can at least get a digital repro that doesn't have the shine. In real life though if you look at it at the wrong angle you'll always get shine. Kind of a bummer, but it's forgivable I guess. I like pencil anyways
