Young Peridot would use her magic o protect them both. As he drew older, healthier, and bigger than most all other ponies, he left home to trian to be a greta monk and protect his wonderful friend. He returned to his lifelong companion and now protects her from anyone and anything that might seek to harm her. He's fairly quiet, but does speak with a rumbly voice when he has something to say.
