Description Today in my collection of Disney character with crayons: Maleficent.
When I draw Cruella De Vil I said I should hate her, and the same can be said of Maleficent. She is a simple villian, she is evil only because the plot said that, she curse a baby only because she wasn´t invited to the baptism.

Yes, she will have no real motivation to be evil, but that's what makes she such a great villain. I'm sure that if she had been invited to the party she had found a reason to kick her curse anyway. This lady is the epitome of malignancy, and the Disney animators made sure to make that clear when designed: his dark clothes as night, his demonic horns, his scepter and crow to reinforce her look (Jafar later would use a similar model ). And his dragon form is impressive, from the time of invocation to its final fall, giving the scary note to a cheesy movie so far.

For me Aurora is not the protagonist of "The Sleeping Beauty", although she gave a name to the film. The main characters are the fairies and evil lady: Maleficent.
Angelina Jolie has very difficult task.

I came, I saw and I didn't like the Maleficent movie.

In my opinion, Maleficent doesn't need a backstory, she's brilliant as is!
But if I were to give her a backstory, I would've at least tried to make the story as true to the original 1959 movie.
And it's the changes that were made (like, re-naming the Good Fairies) that irritate me.
I mean, if Aurora isn't supposed to know she's a princess, until the time was right, then why call her by her real name?
(Would calling her by two names just confuse kids, or something?)
What if one of those soldiers were to slip up and call her, "Princess"?

Having said that, small changes like, who saves Aurora from her curse, I thought was pretty sweet.
But again, were it up to me, I would've made Stephen somewhat redeemable and 'possibly' make Maleficent beyond saving.
'Cause hell, that's why we love her, right?

Sorry for ranting, the movie just feels like a cash-grab on one of the greatest Disney villains to ever grace our screens and childhoods.

P.S. Seeing this reminded me of the time I tried to draw Maleficent when my Dad brought me to work one day.
Though, it wasn't nearly as awesome as yours! n_n

My opinion is similar to Doug Walker channelawesome.com/disneycembe… and the Honest Trailer

I think the history is a cliche, a Wicked wanna be, I don´t like the fairies in this movie when in the original they were my favourite characters.
I prefer Maleficient as a villian, not as antiheroine. The movie could be interesting with a history or twist more original.

I am glad you like my picture

Oops, how did I miss that review? (I'm subscribed to the League of Super Critics, but mainly watch NC's vids.)
"You had ONE JOB, Disney!"

Yes! The fairies from the original were great!
They may not be as powerful as Maleficent, but they did all they could to help.
Every time I bake, I'm usually reminded of Fauna folding the eggs.
Or when I start sewing, I imagine that sequence with the enchanted dress-making. ("Make it blue!")

Personally, I think it would've been better if they didn't just downright murder Stephen.
Or at least show how his single-minded obsession with revenge could affect the people around him. (Like, what happened to his wife?)
It's like what NC said during his review of the Lorax, that if they make a character unidentifiable, then no lessons can be learned from their mistakes, or see how someone can end up the way they are.

Uno de los mejores dragones que nos ha ofrecido el cine, sin duda.
Muy logrado el efecto de las llamas ^^

My worry is--will Angelina Jolie have the presence to fill up the huge presence that is Maleficent? Maleficent's scale is theatrical--she's huge. Stage actors and voice actors give big, theatrical performances. The style of film tends to be smaller, more 'realistic', if you will. '

You in your drawing didn't have this problem---Maleficent looks large and in charge. I love the colors in the sky and well done coloring Maleficent with crayons. ^^ ^^

I also hope that Jolie knows reach the level of the original Maleficent, she is the reincarnated evil, and I think that can destroy her you give her reasons or say she was good before.
Glad you liked the picture, thanks for the favorite ^ ^

Right, right--she could be good before but she has to be really evil to negate that good. My pleasure! ^^ Thank you for drawing it! ^^
