Chapter 2

It was a beautiful day in summer. Well, at least it was a beautiful day for most people. Just like it was for a woman who was enjoying the summer in the garden.

Victor looked out of the kitchen window. He was in the kitchen, making some lemonade. Years has passed and they survived one of the biggest draw-backs of their marriage. Victor grabbed the serving tray and he took it with him outside.
"Some lemonade for a beautiful lady." he said once he approached his beloved wife.

Anita smiled and she took the glass that Victor gave to her. "Thank you, Victor." she said.

Victor sat down next to her and smiled. "How do you feel?"

"I feel wonderful." said Anita and she took a sip from her lemonade. "I'm just glad that I'm back home again."

"Well, you were doing wonderful and there were no other complications."

"That's true." said Anita and she took another sip. "Mm, this is wonderful."

"So, where is…?" Victor started, but some noise from the other side of the house didn't let him finish his sentence.

"Good afternoon you two!" sounded and Mildred Volt walked towards the happy couple.

"Good afternoon, mum." said Victor and he stood up again. "Do you want something to drink?"

Mildred smiled. "I'd love to." she said and while Victor walked back to the kitchen, Mildred sat down next to Anita. "How are you?"

"I'm just more than glad to be home again." said Anita for the second time and Mildred nodded.

"I can fully understand that." she said. "It's not nothing to stay in hospital for six weeks."

"The doctors know my body even better than I do." said Anita laughing. She spent almost years in the hospital But it was all for a good cause. Those last six weeks were just to be sure that everything was okay and now she had nothing to worry about. She had everything that she ever wanted.

Suddenly, a red haired and brown eyed twelve years old girl rushed towards the two women. "It was so much fun with…" the girl started and Anita laughed.

"How about a 'hello' first?"

"Hello, mom!" said the girl as she gave Anita a hug. "Granny was really wonderful!"

"Well, that is the job of a granny." said Anita and she gave Mildred a wink. "Why don't you go and see if daddy is ready with making some lemonade, Evelyne?

The girl ran off again and Anita smiled. Evelyne was her oldest girl. Well, her… Officially, she is Victor's and Anita's daughter. But biologically, they didn't know who Evelyne's parents are.

A few years after Victor and Anita got married, they learned that they couldn't get children. That day was the blackest day of their lives, but they managed to go on.
A year after that news, they decided that they would adopt a child. It didn't take long before they would embrace the one year old girl. Nobody knew who Evelyne's parents were, but that didn't matter to Victor and Anita. All what mattered was that they would take care of a wonderful, nice and warm home for Evelyne.
Evelyne knows that she was adopted, but she doesn't mind it. Her parents were always nice to her; she really loves her mom and dad.

But it didn't stop there.

"Mommy!" it sounded like it came from two different directions, which was the case.
Two identical, six years old, blond haired and brown eyed boys rushed to Anita and Mildred.

"Hey boys, how was the sleepover at grannies place?"

"Great!" sounded in union.

"That's wonderful to hear." laughed Anita and the boys rushed into the garden. Benjamin and Martin were the result of IVF. Even though Evelyne was a wonderful child to have, Victor and Anita decided that they wanted a child of their own. So they asked the doctor about IVF and the doctor told them that they could do it, but still had to remember that it could take some serious time before Anita could get pregnant. It took them almost four years before they could hold their boys in their arms. Finally, their family was complete.

Well, almost…

"Careful, Dot!" sounded from the house and Anita turned around. A young and playful Dalmatian rushed into the garden and ran towards Anita.

"Hey there, Dot." said Anita and the dog sat down next to Anita's feet. "Good girl." Anita started to pet Dot. A couple of years ago, they decided to take a dog. Well, Victor decided it.

Because of the IVF, Anita had to take it easy. With pain in her heart, she said goodbye to U.Z.Z. After the twins were born, Anita stayed back home. Even when Benjamin and Martin went to school, Anita stayed home. After all the years of taking pills and going to hospitals, she figured that she didn't have the energy to go back as an U.Z.Z. agent.

It was then that Victor surprised her and the kids with a small puppy. But that wasn't the only thing that was a welcome surprise.

Evelyne sat down onto a chair with her glass lemonade and she gave one to Mildred.

"Where is your father, honey?" Mildred asked as she looked to her granddaughter.

Evelyne shrugged. "He went upstairs, but he didn't say what he was going to do."

Victor walked towards the women and he gave Anita a small bundle. "I guess she missed her mommy." he said and he gave her a kiss on her forehead.

Anita smiled and she looked to the newest addition of the Volt family. Mary, the miracle who came into their lives a couple of weeks ago.

Some eight months ago, Victor and Anita learned about the new life that was nestled into Anita's womb. Because the doctor knew that Anita couldn't get pregnant twelve years ago, he decided that he wanted her in good hands and under 'tight surveillance'. In those eight months, she spent almost just as much time with the doctor as she visited the hospital in the four years of IVF.
A month before Mary was born, she had to go to the hospital, because she had 'cervical dilation'.  The doctor was afraid that she would go into labour too early and kept her a couple of weeks in the hospital. Everything turned alright and Mary was born safe and healthy. They kept Anita and Mary in the hospital for some more weeks, but they could finally go home.

"Hey there honey." said Anita when Mary looked at her. "Are you finally awake?"

Evelyne stood up and walked to her mother and baby sister. When her parents told her that she would become a big sister again, she loved Mary far before she was born. "Mom, can I hold her?" asked the twelve years old girl.

Anita gave her a little smile. "Of course you can, honey." she said. "But you have to be careful."

Evelyne nodded and Anita placed Mary carefully into Evelyne's arms. "Thanks, mom." Evelyne whispered and she looked to Mildred. "Am I doing this right?"

"You're doing this right, honey." said Mildred. She moved closer to Evelyne and helped her with holding her baby sister.

Victor moved closer to his wife. "We finally made it through." he whispered.

Anita smiled. "I couldn't have done this…" she started and Victor kissed her. "Without you."
