Halo kitty, sounds like hello kitty, but only funnier! That would make a good game.. Halo kitty.. (or maybe not?) if not a game, a pretty funny animation! LOL!

Halo kitty!!!! LOL!!!

THAT IS AWESOME!! and so Kawaii!!!

The words "Halo Kitty" come to mind.. don't know why.... probably cause of the outfit and the gun....

You really are. The attaintion to detail here is great. I really like the way the tail moves.
The only thing I can think that could make it a little more belivable, is if the head moved JUST slightly enough to be barely noticable.
But you're the animation guy, and I'm not. Just an idea.

I like it, the walking is fluid, though the knees could bend a bit more.

THIS IS THE FBF and you are in violation because....b...because just cuz its not FBF and I love FBF.

I hate tweens.... Personally I find doing the whole 8 frame-fbf walk is must easier and less taxing on time.

It looks like he is limping. You got the legs perfect, but his body should move the same way for each step (his body moves up more when he steps with his right foot). Also, his ankles are stiff. That is a huge no-no because even though it doesn't stick out, if you notice it, it really ruins the coolness. When doing motion tweened walk cycles, make another symbol for the foot to make a grand total of 3 symbols for each leg.

My first walk cycle was a lousy fbf stick figure. Better than mine not considering that you animate more than me. Keep practicing and asking for help and in effect you'll become better.

OMG he walks
i know i shouldnt comment and ppl hav probly said this b4
but the thingeh says advanced comments
ppl hav insulted the legs enough anyways
I think his head should bob slightly with each step
to make it look more realistic-like ._.

Yes, that does look very nice and fluid. One thing I'd like to be able to see, though, is his feet when he walks. The connection made between the walking kitty and the floor he's walking on.

Well, he's also walking like that I think cause of the gun, it's adding weight to the way it's being carried, so...maby it's in the way of his leg? That's my theory, but...that's just my oppinion. But still nice.

just a hint, and only because I noticed that you don't mind advanced critique, is that when bipedals (like me...and you!) walk, they move down in the middle of a stride and come back up as their weight is transfered to a specific leg. Some sneaking methods stop that rhythm but stalking keeps it. The reason for the shift up and down is that the weight transfer is fluid from leg to leg. At a constant speed, the bobbing of the upper body is a sine (or cosine; depending on how you think) curve. Just some things to keep in mind.

Your cat infantry moves up on the right step and down through the left step. Just make it come up on the left step too and it won't appear like it is limping. I hope you read this, and that it helps.

yep, better tahn before, BUT you should animate te head, and keep it looking in the same direction all the time... barely a rotation, mostly back and forth and up and down translation. Unless he's like headbanging with headphones, that's the way to do it.

Try making only the right leg move through the frames only. You know like the one on NewGrounds? Otheriwise it'll look like their ice-skating.

Just do fbf already and stop motion tweening lah

Okay... firstly... when any leg is directly perpendicular to the ground, is when the head reaches it's highest peak. Right now I can only identify one high point, and that's only for one leg. It's a mistake that's easy to miss (I do it all the time lol) but watch out for it. Walk cycles = two high points when both legs go through their high points.

Second is the feet. When the foot slides back to the most it can reach, the toes should bend. I know this is motion tweening so the foot won't move but if you do fbf keep that in mind. Also another thing (which I noted while rewatching your safety at work animation) is that you moved the arms and legs that were on the same side together (left arm with left leg moving forward and vice versa). They should move in opposite directions, eg right leg forward left arm back, and etc. Here he's holding a gun so... nothing to say bah ^^u

Lastly the tail. If you do fbf make it "wave" up and down in a curve - not just bobbing up and down. It looks very stiff. In a sense, make it "snake" a bit in an "S" shape. In rl of course cats' tails don't move that much but in animation everything is always exaggerated, so yah.

pitopishi In reply to pitopishi [2005-07-05 12:49:23 +0000 UTC]

Oh yah another thing... was reading one of the viewer's comment... About the leg going behind the hip. This is true. When people walk their left and right side of the hips actually move forward together with the legs. your character's tail remains at a constant spot on his butt, so it's like, his legs are moving but not his hips. Position the tail differently in different frames to show the hip's positioning.

You should practice with stick people. They get way too much criticism, when in actual fact their simple form is far easier to scrutinise when animating, so if you've done a movement wrong it's easy to tell. I am going to be a full-body animator when i'm finished practising, but at the moment i'm practising with sticks and it's great help. Not too much effort either.

But i like you walk cycle, i think it's okay for a slow walk, but for anything faster the leg pulls upwards a lot more when it moves backwards. Simple rule is the leg on the ground hardly bends, the leg in the air bends a lot. (The foreleg should be at about a 45 degree angle when it crosses with the grounded leg, and then it quickly straightens)

I dont know if that really made sense, but just watch people, you should get what i mean.

S'okay, and by the way, in case that message looked kind of condescending, i am aware of the fact that you're about 48000 times better then me

I love your animations. And looking at the cat again, i guess it's legs do kind of bend to about 45 degrees, it just doesn't look as snappy a movement because of the slow walk and short legs. But in that case it doesn't really need to be as snappy. So yeah, this is okay, but i do think you should try doing a stickman - it's suprisingly hard.

Good luck with it

wlak cycles are tough, try to get the squash and stretch effect down. for instance each time he steps, for both legs, he will go up and down. that will give him the feeling of weight in his steps

Very nice,
think about the beginning and en that they fit even better together (hard as heck but try)
The arms and weapon needs to be separate objects (its better if his arm isnt in a 100% fixed angle)

Work on the skill =^__^=
