this probably will not make any sense to you whatsoever (unless you've played minecraft), but i have a weird feeling that grid, in some obscure way... sortof represents the (possibly non existent) good side of xenos (or at least gives them personality) the same way that the (original) cupa sort of represents the good side of minecraft creepers and slender chibi represent the "good" side of slenderman (look it up if you haven't heard of him).
people seem to have a way of almost idolizing particular bad guys (search for loki on DA, half the search results will be art from fans almost worshiping his movie incarnation). they all have one thing in common: personality. hopefully you'll recognize enough of my examples to at least get my point.
damn, i'm an example myself, notice my avatar. one symptom of this weird worship disorder is having a licking avatar of the one you worship.

why the hell did i write all this!? sorry, but i have to post this, i cant stand putting so much work into something to delete it.
also, "castle" is a series of very well made stickfigure movies that you should see, if just so the ENORMOUS amount of effort it's creator put into it is seen by the world. it is the kind of project that it's author spend years on and it's unique... feeling? is one that has spawned it a small community of worshipers, complete with (small) a DA group. link to movies: www.stickpage.com/castleseriesβ¦

I totally agree with you. And often, people seem drawn to bad guys either thinking they are cool because they don't care or feel sorry for them because they generally end up loosing or have been treated badly. I think people can identify with a bad character more often than good ones. I always go for the bad guys in just about any film! Thanks for the links, I'll check them out as time permits
