Rumors of snowy owl sightings in Wisconsin were enough for me to extend my trip home for the holidays and hope that I might get a chance to find one. I received a tip on a location where a snowy was spotted a few weeks ago and decided that was my best chance. I was not confident at all that I would see one, but a couple of days in the frozen windy marsh proved to be beyond worth it. Just after sunset I saw this beautiful snowy owl perched on the top of an old dead tree. Its back facing me, so focused on the ground that I feared it might never look back at me and I'll have to leave with only a photo of what appeared to be a headless owl... thankfully the bird was kind enough to oblige me with a quick over the back glance with its piercing yellow eyes. A few moments later it spotted something more interesting than myself and disappeared into the tall grasses. Very cool to have the opportunity to see this rare arctic visitor so far south.

Wow, glad for you !
Here in QuΓ©bec it has been an invasion, and lots of problems with plenty of photographers feeding them with live mice, with lots of disturbances all the time. Now I avoid to go to watch them arround the big cities to avoid being the hundrest one with a big lense. It's cool when having the opportunity to see one and being able to have plenty of time to watch and eventually take pictures of a wild behaviour.
