Description
A drawing of two of the characters from a story I'm working on on the side. They're the heroes of the story, working to take down an evil mob boss...blah, blah, blah. X3Gino's a rabbit who uses an enormous sword he can summon at will.
Reirei is a mage who uses almost exclusively fire-type magic. She's a cross-breed of a fox and a cat.

I've only read the first book.
But then I just HAD to read "The Blue Girl" second.
It's a book about evil faeries too. They trick this kid into flying then drop him in mid-air and kill him. :_:

By the way, you said Advanced Critique Encouraged so I won't hold back. At all. Mwa ha ha ha. But that means I'll really look at your picture. Actually, the following is what I wished people would consider when they look at my own pictures. Instead they just say one thing and press the back button or something.
In all your coloring is superb. Though the coloring style is more fitting of animations (High Detailed Animations) as it is more simplified than just regular art. Considering what you're working on it's certainly better practice.
I really like how you did Reirei. The colors are really lifting. However you got into a really gradient shading there. It's fine for animations, but sometimes it can really detexturize the subject. Reirei probably isn't made of metal so she'd/he'd never actually shine like that. The fire would cast more of a glow than a shine. It almost looks like she doesn't have fur except for the tufts in the outline which were done really well.
In contrast the bunny (OH GAWD, Digits is summoned), actually looks like he has more fur even though the outline with his tufts of fur aren't done as well (Not as smooth in the ears). The thing here is the fact that there isn't gradient on him. Because you colored them differently they don't match well at all. I'm not sure what the technique is called on what you did, but just shading? You made the dark spots where they would be on him. It looks really simplified on his lower half, and when you compare his head and his body you notice the inconsistency. You did gradient shading on his head but no really on his body! (Gradient shading is so much easier, ha)
I think in the future you should stick to the color/shading portion to be the same all throughout the picture unless it's a special part or something.
The Sword, oh god! It looks like foam! So squishy and friendly looking! The way you shaded it there gave it a soft and not just smooth look. Swords are pretty sharp in shading in most illustrations. The ribbon on the end also looks a bit floppy.
The background is actually what bugs me most. It's so dark. It looks fine with Gino, but with Reirei little Miss Bright actually seems like she's disappearing. For a fluffy ball of light that's just weird. I think it's because she's red and the background has a seemingly red tint. It could be either blacker or light and it might look better. Perhaps a different type of color would do well too.
Was that too much? I get carried away.
Anyway, I actually do like this picture. Though Reirei consists of gradient you did gradient really well. It would be a style that would look really sleek an action oriented in your flashes.

I only have internet when the weather allows.
A few hours ago I was trying to download the last few volumes of Gokusen (raws in Chinese and Japanese. Impossible to translate with it's complex Kanji and obscure modern slang. Yes, I have the resources possible to translate something written in Japanese, it's just slow and tedious). It took SIX HOURS to download the last four because of the speed and disconnections. I wanted to cry.
