It looks like their dog just died.
Or maybe their cat. Snape has no reason to be fond of dogs.

I'd forgotten about Evelyn's cat.
I confess I've not been following the Sev-Ev storyline, though I enjoy the drawings a great deal. I took a dislike to Evelyn early on, based on a personal matter. It bugged the heck out of me when Evelyn, young, strong, and able-bodied, virtually ordered Severus, whom she'd just met, to carry her bags for her.
I'm not young, strong, or able-bodied; I rarely ask anyone to carry something for me if there's any possible way I can manage it myself (such as sliding it along the floor or using a dolly); and when I do have to ask for help, I am extremely polite. In fact, I am downright humble. I wouldn't have asked my own brothers for help the way Evelyn asked Severus, whom she barely knew.
It's a very personal reason for disliking the character, and doesn't apply to anyone else, but it does mean I've been simply enjoying the art as art (a lot), rather than following the storyline. Not a criticism, just an explanation.

Yep, Evelyn is bossy and pushy. She can also be a too expansive and occasionaly clueless, like in the scene you just mentioned, where she interpreted Severus returning her cat as him reaching out and trying to socialise then pretty much coerced him into carrying SOME of her bags, while she got others from the car, because two people=faster than one and she had many bags to unload. It wasn´t a matter of being able to carry them or not, just efficiency: "let´s get this inside faster, so we can sit down for a cup of tea" not "please carry this because I am not physically capable" Some would argue that Severus should have offered to carry the bags, anyways, particularly since he was being invited in for tea. (Personally if I see a person, able bodied or not, has more bags than hands to carry them, I would offer to help before being asked, but that´s just me ).
Furthermore, there´s character background in play here: Evelyn is comes from a small village, from a close-knit, very informal Irish-Catholic family, a family that´s rather large and varied in age, which means the whole, 'helping without even being asked' and 'doing things together' are a given: she grew up doing house chores for her parents and older relatives, has helped raising two nieces and has an elderly grandmother who often requires assistence. It can be argued that with that background she instinctively thinks people will be helpful and collaborative, because that´s the way she herself does things(and Severus is not just any guy on the street, they are neighbours, which in her mind warrants a little mutual collaboration). In any case being bossy, pushy and excessively outgoing (to the point of being intrusive) are all VERY well stablished character flaws of Evelyn´s. Because you know, characters need flaws as well as qualities. Evelyn just a normal woman who misjudged a social exchange (the whole exchange was indeed written to be on the side of awkward), while effectively trying to be nice. As it happens in real life all the time (don´t tell me you´ve never been accidentaly rude or careless towards anybody, even while genuinely trying to be polite.)
Legitimate question (no snark here, I swear) do you ONLY read stories where all characters are completely polite (or polite according to your personal standards of politeness) and flawless? Because we all know Severus Snape is...well...not these things...so how would you bear reading him? Just curious, seriously. I love Snape and yet I hate a lot of things he did. Example of a pet-peeve: having been a teacher for a number of years, I was really not comfortable with the way he treated his students on several occasions, and if a colleague of mine had acted in a similar manner IRL I´d be outraged.
That didn´t make me drop the HP series.
Just asking because you explicitly stated that THIS is what´s keeping you from reading my stories(instead of, say, my lack of writing skils, or a storyline that you don´t like) , and it does boggle my mind a bit, that disliking a particular specific trait of a character´s personality (because it happens to be a pet peeve of yours) would keep you from reading an entire story (it seems to me that applying this "rule" to all written material would leave most if not all of us readers with absolutely nothing to read), particularly when it´s a negative trait so innane like being accidentaly impolite in a particular scene.
With that being said, thanks you for the kind words about the artworks. The pictures are, of course, are more meaningful if one reads the story, but I´m glad to know you enjoy them nonetheless. I´m glad to know I´ve been creating a character that is at least visually appealing, even to somebody who doesn´t like it for the substance of it (which I admitely would prefer, but one can´t have it all, I guess ), and I´m looking foward to illustrating more (or rather having the time to illustrate more).
Sorry for the over-long answer, I just felt like I had to set the record straight as to some character development and character motivations that I (mistakenly) assumed would be obvious by now (at least for those actually reading the story, which is not your case, so I imagined some explanation was in order)

Yes, you´re right. I can´t in good conscience expect you to read a story if you are so annoyed about the main character, and I surely don´t want to have this same exchange over and over again every time you leave a comment.
But you can also apreciate the fact that it also rubs me the wrong way when out of a story that has almost 20 chapters by now, you were so adamant about singling out a specific scene to justify you not reading it. I´ve been trying to create a character that is multidimensional, and while her pushiness is surely an important aspect of her (an aspect I created specifically to make her clash with Severus´sense of privacy, in case you haven´t noticed yet). To me it sounded more like "I don´t like this particular characteristic of her so I will ignore everything else", and you can surely appreciate how offensive that can be to a writer who is actually trying to create a complex character.
If you had said "I don´t like your writing style" or "This storyline is not interesting to me" or "Evelyn´s personality and character history are not appealing to my tastes because of this or that reason" it might have come across as a fair and balanced opinion. The way you put it, it sounded more like nit-picking than actual criticism. Personal confession: I don´t comment on other people´s deviantions a lot. And that´s because I like to think about what I´m going to comment, how it´s going to be phrased, if my opinion and arguments are adequate, relevant and called for and how the artist will receive them. That´s why I´d prefer that if you absolutely felt the need to leave a comment on material that´s related to a character that you dislike from the get go it would be something more well-rounded than focusing on a single aspect of the character.
You seemed too intent on making it sound like Evelyn´s pushiness (the one characterist of her you clearly state to dislike) somehow defines her entire character. The scene cited happened to be more of a faux pas on Evelyn´s part (rather than her being puposely rude, as Severus himself is known to be) and you seem to have made it somehow emblematic of who she is as a character. And yes, I´m aware this is not the only instance of Evelyn being pushy, but, and I cannot stress this enough, it´s a character flaw of hers, which is entirely ok to dislike (that´s why it´s called a "flaw" because is a negative thing), but just don´t make it to be the only thing about her, particularly if you choose to ignore the character background that created that specific flaw, that´s all I ask.
Finally, I can appreciate this is a matter of personal reasons(every person had their own "triggers" and I surely have my pet peeves due to personal experiences much like you and every other person does), and I respect that. I don´t know how far you´ve read into the story that you couldn´t find a single redeeming quality to Evelyn that could outweight your annoyance about her pushiness, (or maybe this particular character just has no redeeming qualities at all in your eyes, which is also fine). But assuming you read enough to make an educated decision that you dislike her enough to just give up on the story, I will ask you to please stick to your decision. Try to avoid comments that, in a way, basicaly boil down to "this character annoys me and I must absolutely tell you this, and stress exactly why I refuse to read whatever you write that has this character in it" and then keep coming back to it. This is probably the third comment you made about how pushy Evelyn is. I got it, Evelyn is pushy. I agree, she is. Do you have to like that about her? No, absolutely not. I´m her creator and I don´t like that about her either. Does this particular characteristic of her negates all there is to her as a character? I like to think not. She´s much more than just "pushy", but if that´s all she is to you, it´s ok, I can´t tell you what to think or how to feel about a character. But to keep coming back to this just makes me think you´re trying to stir controvesy.
But if you absolutely MUST let me know just how much my character annoys you so much, as a matter of common courtesy: 1) do not do that by commenting on another person´s deviation ( has nothing whatsoever to do with this discussion, and I´m already kicking myself for basically spamming her comment section), comment on my deviantions or profile, or send me a note 2) try to make in a way that doesn´t seem like you´re purposely trying to step on my toes.
Once again I´ve written an article, and I apologize in advance. I won´t be upset if you chose to ignore the rant.

The business with the bags was not the sole basis for it, but merely the one I could most easily specify. It's really a case of "I do not like thee, Dr Fell / The reason why I cannot tell, / But this I know and know full well, / I do not like thee, Dr Fell." I should never have mentioned it, but it just stuck in my mind. My apologies.

Read my previous answer. I KNOW it was not only the bag stuff.I´ve aknoledged your point of view and understand it. .
Don´t apologize for not liking my stories or characters. It´s within your rights.
All I ask is: do not misrepresent my work because of one pet-peeve of yours and do not nag me endlessly about the one thing you dislike, even after I offered you reasons and context for it (three comments about how pushy Evelyn is enough, don´t you think?).

You said yourself that Evelyn is somewhat pushy. That's not the same thing as me bringing it up three separate times. Can we end this discussion? Thank you.

Honestamente eu estou aqui olhand, olhando, olhando e as palavras estão me faltando, juro!
Agora me dá uma licencinha que eu preciso ir tomar um ar e dar gritinhos histéricos pelas próximas horas, depois eu volto deixo um comment que faça algum sentido, porque agora meu cérebro está meio que dando pau
