I really liked the background and how its lighting interacts with your character.

I am not into this kind of art but i sort of admire those who can make it because it's so distant to my thinking. So many colours in odd places, even bold ones.

Silly! It looks great! I love the contrasting greens and pinks - it's a bold move and I think you pulled it off. It definitely makes the scene 'pop' more and you've done the lighting superbly.
You've put just enough details into the grass as leaves as well - I honestly can't handle things like that so this is probably going to be an image I refer back to to try and pick that sort of technique apart XD
(I really really like the dragonfly sword hilt, makes it feel a lot more whimsical too)
I think maybe the only thing I might make different is the figure in the distance being so dark. Everything else at that range is more pale and indistinct so perhaps making them a bit... less firm? Like keep them dark to draw the eye but at some... wispyness to the edges of the shading to make it seem like they are becoming more clear as they approach? I can't explain well >_< It just feels they don't need to be too dark because you already have the composition leading the eye to them and against the back light they'll be standing out all ready too...
Bleh, ignore me rambling.
You did good, don't pick yourself apart over it. Your work always have a lovely energy and feel to it so don't feel bad ^_^

I could just hug you right now.
Aah, you have no idea how happy I feel after reading your comment. It's nice to know that other artists can say nice things about this piece. I'm just always too critical of my work and only see mistakes... But then most artists are like that with their own work, huh? I did make the right decision in uploading this.
And you noticed the dragonfly sword!! Haha! That alone makes me happy!
Oh yeah, I totally understand what you're saying about the figure in the distance. He is too bold and dark, isn't he? I really do appreciate your advice, but I hope you won't mind me saying that I'm just going to leave this piece alone. I fear that, if I correct the figure, I'll want to work into the whole thing again. I'd rather just leave this here will all its mistakes and such and start again from scratch if I ever decide to redo this scene. I'll remember what you said for the future though, so thank you!
Honestly, thank you ever so much for your advice and for cheering me up. You're awesome!
Oh, and how are things at ZU? I've been too busy to visit there for a while. I'd love to return soon and chat with you!

This is really beautiful! You are lucky that your sister was around, because artists can be huge self-critics. You might see many mistakes in here, but what I see is great play with colors, really nice depth created with eye-enchanting values, and a story of 2 characters. "Is that background character coming to the front one, to report some good or bad news?"
Well, above all, I think you "won" by a great mix of style and colors~~
