Description

These are Eerdeer, as described by physteddy in one of our roleplays in Uunca-Prides

Eerdeer are predators that live in pack-herds. Their name is composite of "Eerie Deer". This is because they evolved and adapted to look similar to wild deer in order to catch prey off guard. They often hunt small animals as individuals and other predators larger than themselves as a group. They can jump high enough to reach tree branches above them and are good at displacing their weight. Their sharp claws are shaped similar to mountain sheep hooves and during a swarm hunt, give off a stampeding sound. The reside in the dark of the Night Tribe Territory's forests. They are quite agile, flexible, and maneuverable. They can reach speeds of 45MPH or higher. They rely heavily on the power of their bite (for they have strong jaws and many sharp teeth and strike like hungry vipers), their kicks and their ramming speed. They will use their claws to defend themselves, but this isn't effective in an ardous battle. Bucking is more their thing.

Occassionaly they will hunt wandering uuncas. As uuncas have their vision slightly opacked by their mask's keratin it is often too late by the time an uunca can tell the difference between a normal animal and the Eerdeer. Eerdeer shriek and whistle like the animals they imitate. Usually only resorting to snarls and growls when the pack is on the attack. They arrange coordinated attacks and are more intelligent than they look. They communicate constantly with eachother during the hunt.

The alpha of the pack herd is usually a male animal that rivals Aztec Uuncas in size. Alphas are usually the elders of the group as the smaller eerdeer are likely still coming of age. Male and female both grow long antlers. Youths start growing their antlers 2 weeks after birth. Live births consist of 4-6 kids. A pack-herd can reach anywhere between 20-60 individuals where it's not just the Alphas that breed. However, during mating season, that population can drop by a third due to competition for a given mate. Eerdeer females compete for male mates. Males compete against eachother to increase rank in the hierarchy. Weakest of either gender are either forced out of the group are die fighting. Females will generally fight for the right of the Alpha. If they lose, they compete for the next rank below it. A sense of status quo is established among individuals in this manner. Alpha pairings get to eat hearts and other prized meats, while zeta pairings will have to survive on the bone marrow of any kill. Ranking greatly affects nourishment in the pack-herd. Causing some individuals to grow small and others enormous. If a fully grown eerdeer is encountered and it is as small as a dog, it is probably born to a zeta pair. If a eerdeer as large as a draft horse is encountered, it is likely an alpha and extreme caution is advised for the herd is never too far away.

Eerdeer are highly carnivorous, but they are not strangers to an omnivorous diet. Eerdeer will often graze in order to lure prey. Often eating roots, grass, flowers, berries and nuts. But once they have achieved their goal, they become savage bloodthirsty killers. They often have dark pelts consisting of browns, charcoal, black, jade, dark greens or navy blue. Their face and bellies tend to be lighter than the rest of their bodies and their legs are the darkests. They sometimes have spots or stripes or no markings at all. Eyes are always amber-brown or blue. The bottom of their tails often have white fluff like that of actual deer and rabbits. Manes vary in coloration, but they usually match their legs. Their eyes glow red in the dark much like wolves and crocodilians do. They have a slight beak at their lips that help them pick away at bones.

Average life span is of 32 years.

Alpha: 600lbs - 1280lbs
Beta: 450lbs - 580lbs
Gamma: 300lbs - 440lbs
Delta: 140lbs - 290lbs
Epsilon: 75lbs - 130lbs
Zeta: 35lbs - 70lbs
Omegas: 15lbs - 28lbs (Often booted out, killed or die from starvation)

Note: Ranks can change in accordance to match-win system of the pack. Zetas can gradually rank up to alpha in spite of their size if they are strong enough. However it is extremely difficult to push an alpha to a zeta position due to their great stature and strength.

Ash Sector Guards have found a way to make use of these animals as guard beasts against intruders. A keeper or Handler will raise a squad of 4 eerdeer where the guardsman takes on the role of alpha, and there is only one delta male in the squad. The remaining three are Gamma females. During breeding season, the squad is aloud to mate in a wide enclosure and the litters are then delivered to Trainers after 4 weeks of age. Trainers sort out the new generation into new squads where none are blood related. They do this while they are young to facilitate bonding and diminishing the risk of inbreeding. If any gender, especially male, resulted too high in number for the new squad formations, the spares are grouped together with 3 surrogate mothers until they are old enough to be released back into the wild as their own new pack. Hence keeping the wild population large and productive.

Domestic Eerdeer are used to track down intruders and criminals and kill them (if necessarry) on command. Domesticated eerdeer are still quite feral in nature when in pursuit, but have proven to be quite social with their keepers. Domestic eerdeer don't look at all different from the wild ones as their domestication is recent. They do however average at a meduim hight of a great dane. Domestic eerdeer are often well fed and given treats during training to influence a behavior by reward system. Eerdeer, when trained, properly are well behaved. Especially when their keeper is more often willing to share hisor her meal with them. In addition, if their keeper makes a habbit of socializing his/her squad with their family, Eerdeer will often incorporate uunca cubs into their pack-herd and intinctively protect them. However, even though this is a good thing, it is strongly advised against doing so unless uunca cubs are old enough to hunt small animals on their own. Eerdeer squads will often see small cubs as opportunity and play dangerously rough. If a squad kills a cub, the whole squad may have to be put down, for they always act at once. Rarely can an domestic eerdeer squad be trusted with infants or young cubs. If a squad does adopt a family's cubs into their group, it is reflected with great praise over the Handler. For it is a sign of an unbreakable bond between their alpha uunca that could only be achived through great feats of trust and socialization.

Keeping eerdeers is no easy task in the slightest. Only Ash Sector uunca guardsmen have acheived this and only one faction of them can. Unlike dogs, eedeer are unforgiving of mistakes and signs of weakness. A keeper can't just be strong and firm in body and character, he must also be loving and rewarding. Abusive actions will lead a squad to turn on the handlers and possibly kill them.

Rules:

1. This is not a free line art! Download full size with purchase in order to use for character creation.
2. This is not a open adopt species. Whether you chose to adopt/create a feral character or a domestic one you are still required to join Uunca-Prides to own one.
3. Feral adopt/creations do not require uunca characters to own.
4. Domestic adopt/creations require a Ash Sector Night Tribe Uunca character to own. Preferrably a Breeder, Trainer or a Handler (Guardsman). Exceptions: Omega Eerdeers.
5. Do not claim uunca or Eerdeer species as your own. Cite me and the group in your adopt/creations and ArmoredAlienArtist
6. Creating your own adopts requires permission first and must be done with the above line art.
7. You don't need the lineart to create your own characters. Just follow the design as best you can.

Commonly Asked questions:
1. If I have a breeder character, does that mean I can make adopts of my own?
No, you may not. It just means that your character's occupation is eedeer breeder in the tribe. It does however allow you to keep up to 7 eerdeers as some are probably surrogate parents for new kids on top or your character's personal squad.

2. How many eerdeers can I own?
It depends on whether they are feral or not and whether or not you created them. Technically you can create as many as you want, but try not to make too many. If you are adopting, it's a different story. Most of my adopts will be domestic, because I'm sure many would enjoy the idea of having a squad of beasties. to put it simply:
    a. created ferals are unlimited, but must be specified as feral. created domesticates are limited to 4 per Handler or Trainer character, and 7 for a Breeder. You will need to adopt or create their owners to have domestic eerdeer. If you are adopting uuncas from me specifically please read this: Uunca Adopts Limit! (Those made By ME). PS: You are allowed to make your own uunca. Visit group to learn more: Uunca-Prides
    b. Adopted Ferals are limited to 5 per deviant, much like uuncas for same reason. However, domestics depend on the number of uunca characters with the required occupation you have. I recomend no more than 3-4 so as not to have tooo many to role play with. The limit per character is the same as when they are created.

3. Can I make my own adopts?
See rule 6.

4. Do I have to use the line art to make my own characters?
See rule 7.

5. What if I want my non night tribe uunca to own at least 1?
It may only be possible with the Eagle Tribe uunca. For they would be the only ones willing to test the theory since they are closest to the region. But it would only be 1 per uunca in this case.

But if you want another tribe of uunca to have one, it would probably be result of "rescuing" a weak omega that was booted from the pack-herd. Booted omegas are very small or simply Zetas that lost their rank. Use the above reference information for your character creation, but please specify that it's an omega. Omegas may yet prove loving pets compared to other eedeer since they're predisposed to seek approval for their self preservation. Rescued Omegas would be playful & even friendly to others, feral or not. However caution should still be exercised around uunca cubs.

Note me if you have any more further questions.

Can their antlers come in different styles/sizes similar to actual deer?

yes. But large extravagant ones belong to the alphas, much like actual patriarch deer that lead a herd. I had planned to do more diverse designs accordance to their types but using the line art for speedy adopts was easier.

Woah! The way they are designed are so amazing. I can imagine this animal being so interesting to animate or illustrate doing various activities related to his behaviour.
