I really love the black and pink tones in this work. The picture is very unpredictable and intense.

It's hard to paint the own mother. as well as other relatives. I guess that's because you know them so well and you have a higher expectation at the outcoming. and you can paint them as lifelike as you want, as long as you are emotional involved it will never look the same as the person (to yourself. for others, the resemblance is surely obvious.) I think it's a good painting.

In your brain, she will always be a different, younger woman.
Your eyes are seeing the optical truth of today, but your heart feels the memory of another time.
Every time I paint my mother, I feel the same way. "Who the hell is this lady? She's not MY mom!!!"

I have the same problem when trying to paint my mother. I think it's because when you've been around someone your whole life they start to look different to you. So when you study their features for a painting it seems so odd, even if it looks just like them.
