Description “Tara!” Jerica screamed as she scrambled to climb down the tree. The area now suddenly fell silent. Not even the sound of the river or the birds overhead in the trees could be heard now. Making her way down quickly she ran over to the body of her friend as she laid on the ground. Blood surrounded her head where she landed. The child did not move as Jerica jumped over and landed in front of her turning quickly and looking at her in panic. Her body was eerily still. The black haired girl couldn’t tell if the other was even breathing.
“No. Tara.” She said falling to her knees beside her and stroking the light brown hair out of the other girls face. “Come on Tara. Open your eyes. Talk to me.” She whimpered placing her hand on her cheek. “Tara!” She yelled. Desperately. Angrily. How could she let this happen? They were just having fun.
Tears dripped down her face. Her body trembled. Her hands clenched into fists gripping the grass under her. She grit her teeth as she jumped up. “Hold on! I’ll be right back!” She yelled as she took off running as fast as she could. “Tara…. Hold on.” She muttered as a sob escaped but she kept running.

A week passes as Jerica taps her pencil on her desk. She hadn’t gotten a text or call from Tara. The only information she had was what news she got from her mother. “Tara is okay… Why isn’t she responding to my texts?” She sighed. “Is she mad at me?” She fiddled with the black band on her right wrist rubbing her finger over the red heart on the center.
A black haired woman stepped over towards her room. “Jerica?” Her mother tapped on her door before stepping in. “Sweetie why don’t you go get some fresh air huh? Sitting here and staring at a phone isn’t going to do you any good.” She said walking over smoothing her daughter’s hair down some.
Jerica pushed her hand away with a grunt. “What’s the point?” she huffed grabbing the phone and shoving it into her pocket before pushing away from her desk and sulking to her bed flopping down on it quietly. “I didn’t mean for her to fall…” She whispered looking at her wall quietly. “I tried to call and apologize but…”
“It isn’t your fault sweetie.” Her mother said twirling a strand of her long hair around her finger. A nervous habit she had. “I’m sure she isn’t mad at you. She is your best friend. You two haven’t been apart since you met in kindergarten.” She said smiling faintly as she tried to cheer up her daughter. “That’s five years you two have been together. I’m sure things will work out.” She told her.
Jerica was silent a moment and then sat up shrugging some. “I guess…” She sighed. “Maybe… I will go out. Just for a bit.” She grabbed up a pair of sneakers and slipped them on and laced them up slowly. “Later then.” She waved at her mother as she walked out of the room.
“Just keep out of trouble.” The woman called after the young girl. “And be home before dinner!” She yelled hearing the front door open up with a squeak. She probably needed to oil that up so it wasn’t so loud.
“Yeah mom! I got it!” The child responded as she stepped out the door and closed it behind her. “I’ll be back as soon as I check on Tara.” She mumbled to herself as she headed out walking down the drive way and to the side of the road. Tara lived within walking distance so it wasn’t hard to get to her place from where she was and she was determined to get there. She had to know what was going on.
