Yeah that's another one. I promise I'll do a tut on it as soon as I finish this dragon one I'm working on. It will probably be another week, since after I finish it I am going to be switching rooms with my son, and that will probably take a week to finish, what with all the painting and moving furnture, but I swear I'll do it as soon as everything turns back quasi-normal!

Yeah...normal ain't exactly any of us, huh? I really love the way that looks, especially on this guy!!!!! Can't wait for the tut on this technique!

mysticalis In reply to Boggleboy [2006-01-29 06:17:04 +0000 UTC]

Actually I think Normal is only a setting on a washing machine. But seriously, normal is a relative term isn't it?

the tut dragon is almost done though I am making his wings in leather though, I simply did not have enough epoxy clay to use it for the whole wing. It is already top heavy enough lol....that brings me to my suggestion, perhaps in the future use epoxy clays for the horns on the face, and imbed them into the internal armature. I found out the hard way that the polymer clays snap right off if the sculpt tips over or if in my case I have butter fingers and srop it I am in the process of digging two horns out because of that (boo-hoo) and will re make them in epoxy clay.....also make sure you stress that the base should be drilled and screwed into something more stable lol.....mine has tipped over I don't know how many times.....oh and maybe I will work on the baby this weekend (but then again maybe not lol)....

mysticalis In reply to sevenwillow [2006-01-27 21:34:46 +0000 UTC]

Whelp, what I do if it isn't balanced enough, is mount it to a sculpting table with a screw. I have a lazy susan type of arrangement that has a hole in the center through the plywood. I run the screw up through that and into the base so it won't fall over. You could do it with any piee of wood though, just so it has a braoder base to support it. The same thing happened to me with the dragon I made for my sister for Christmas. I just kept shortening up the other horn to match the one that broke off. Hey, it was a present, not something for sale. I do normally make most of the longer spikes out of the apoxie, but for these short ones, it doesn't matter that much. Anything that is long and likely to hit something if turned over I do. Guess I got a bit lazy on this tut dragon.

lol yeah I understand. I don't know if I will let this one out of my house, not because it isn't sale worthy but because it is just so cool

Excellent!

Do you ever have a hard time letting something go? Selling it that is?
I will finish something and think maybe I do what to keep it....

mysticalis In reply to Clayprinter [2006-01-26 15:48:25 +0000 UTC]

Not really, I have more of a problem with keeping them. Not that I don't want to, beause I do, it's just that I think they aren't fulfilling their real purpose unless they are out there where they can be seen and appreciated. I do my work to evoke some kind of emotion, even if it is just a simple giggle from someone who sees it. I don't get many visitors, so they would basically only be seen by my family members if I kept them here with me. They are in essence my thoughts and emotions, and to keep them hidden is like never speaking up and stating a point of view. It may be dangerous to say what you really think, because you may be critisized, but if you don't speak up and allow the world know how you think or feel, no one will never get to know the real you.
