Even now, that you embody the good values of society trough superman, you find yourself feeling you betray those same ideals you search to believe, you are still blind thorn up bleached by time, alert. And you still end up inverting those ideals. Even if you started back faced to the mirror yor face still reflects.

Nice work

Exellent and unique piece, as with the others it's impressively well sculpted, and original. I agree with ~dan-yell it does remind me of an old stuffed do I have, awesome piece

This is so endearing. It says so much about you with so little.

It reminds me a lot of this stuffed doll I used to have. The arms came off so many times and the body was thin and strung out looking from loosing so much stuffing. My mom thought him a train wreck, but I loved him dearly. One day I couldn't find him and I spent days looking for him. Of course, as a child, you bounce back and find new love. It took me years to get my mom to admit that she threw him away. So tragic.

Mm, the flipped emblem interests me. Does it relate to what was in your journal? What was it... taking Superman as an embodiment of good, what we COULD be... but you don't really feel that humanity is all that great?

heh, you're the second person to notice and ask about the backwards emblem. All of my self portraits have a backwards emblem on them. I choose not to explain it explicitly...mostly because i feel like the point of it is clear enough that most audience members will end up in the right neighborhood of thought. I will tell you this little secret though...one of the ways you can tell what is a self portrait in my work is by looking for that symbol- esp. in multi figure works.

Is the picture flipped for somereason? Or are the S the opposite way on the real sculp?
If it is does it have a deeper meaning(one your willing to share ofc)
I could think of a million reaons why it would be mirrored, but it would take to long to write em down i think

all my self portraits have the backward S.
this, of course, has a deeper meaning.
but, i'll leave it to you to decide what that means...mostly because it's not really that complicated of an idea.
hey, thanks for noticing that!

mudmonkey In reply to lillgroda [2004-04-04 16:30:18 +0000 UTC]

it's clay- a low fire clay body to be exact.
and the surface is a combiantion of a slip (liquified clay) that i formulated and mixed up and some underglaze (that i bought at the store).

thanks for the compliment *head gets a bit bigger*
