Those scarfs are handy to turn recognizable persons to more generic characters for the purposes of this picture.
The body language of their postures is also fitting to the idea of separation, with their backs more or less turned against one another, avoiding eye contact and in a way even encouraging the man to leave as there is nothing in common anymore except the "their song" as played by the radio, the last reminder of the life together.
I don't know if it is a coincidence that man is wearing black and woman white, but it does highlight the idea of opposites and how different they have become to end up in that situation.
