I was mostly exaggerating. I don't really think Pink Diamond is an outright villain at least in terms of maliciousness. However, a lot of the issues within the series were a direct result of her poor decision making and a lot of innocent people got hurt because she was going through what was essentially the gem equivalent of teenage rebellion. So it's less that she's outright evil and more like she's just incredibly insensitive.

Indeed. What happened to Bismuth probably still counts as the worst thing she's done. It was like she didn't understand a Pearl's nature when she gave her the order to keep a secret. Spinel on the other hand wasn't immobilized like Lapis was in the mirror so maybe Pink figured she could have left the garden whenever she wanted. Spinel seems like the type who you would think was bad at holding still. She would get bored and leave. On the other hand that's still a thousand years of not wondering where Spinel was. So Pearl is like physically incapable of disobeying a direct order but Spinel only really badly wanted to not lose the quiet game to impress her friend. So how much of that is inflicted by Pink Diamond? Or just her nature as a Spinel gem with an oblivious owner? Or her own choice? That being said I love her and feel really sad for her.

I'll bet you anything that if she saw what happened in the future, she would break down into tears
