(casually places this before everything went down in Helike because Dusk is on that expedition oops )
Sometimes - not often, but sometimes - Dove found himself thinking about the future. More specifically, he found himself thinking about what would happen when Maia ended up moving in with Cosmo. It would be soon, surely, Maia already spent a fair few nights over at their place, and it's not like the two weren't dating or anything, but... it was something to think about.
To really think about.
Dusk had gone from living as a kitten in the orphanage with nothing, to living in the Manors of the Upper District- first with his adopted family, then with his platonic soulmate and best friend. He'd, uh, frequented a couple of houses in the lower district, and he'd seen Phantom's house as well, and they all seemed so... small in comparison.
Would he ever be able to live in one of those? He was a small cat, sure, but he was used to space. Even if it was shared space.
It was these kinds of things that occupied his thoughts as the petite tabby as he stared at his reflection in the water, a pile of the last blooming flowers of the season at his paws being mindlessly worked into the shape of a flower crown.

[IM THE LITERAL WORST I'M SO SORRY I didn't reply to this sooner!! Also I'm not entirely sure of where Dusk is so I'm just going to assume by the lake??]
Things had been slow lately, Gail had to admit. It was almost as if his life had been in a sort of rut... after Guava had left, life had been pretty much entirely uneventful. He didn't talk to a lot of cats, didn't go a lot of places, just spent most of his days working. The days he wasn't, he was at home just sleeping or doing nothing. He had actually tried fiddling around with making different crafts and things... but that required actually having things to craft with.
He had just been sitting at home this morning, thinking about life when Gail had decided he needed to actually do something. Having gotten a small wicker basket, the tom set out to the forest in hopes of gathering up a few things to bring back home. Leaves, feathers, anything like that. Maybe flowers for the windowsill. Brighten up the place a little bit, freshen things... and heavens knew he could use some of that. In typical bachelor fashion, his household was a giant mess. Wasn't that the truth!
The Middle District house was just too big for him sometimes.
Now he trod along the dusty path, tawny paws leaving soft imprints of his calloused pawpads. Gail loved the forest, perhaps more than anything for the solitary company it offered. It wasn't even all that solitary in truth. Birds, rodents, all sort of little things lived here, scattered about. Off to his right, there were tall ash and beech trees stretching up into the sky from their roots in the soft earth. To his left, the lake, sparkling with little breaks of light. Something caught his eye. Peering closer, he made out that it was a cat. That gray tabby pelt looked familiar... he broke off the path and made his way down the slight slope to the beach.

((YOU'RE ALL GOOD I'M EVEN WORSE LOOK LMAO and yeah the Lake was where I was going for, whoops ))
It was mindless work, really, his paws moving on their own accord - how many times had he sat here, doing just this? He'd perfect flower-crown making as a kit, and in all the time spent with Cosmo it had only gotten, well, better. Easier.
A truly mindless task.
Still, it took him a moment to register the sound of pawsteps approaching, and Dove turned his head, blinking at the pale brown figure that was making it's way towards him for a moment before his paws stopped, and a grin crossed his maw. "Gail!" It had been... a while since he'd seen the other tom. A fair while, too - since the ball, maybe? Owl was really the only friend he'd made that he'd seen since then and that, well...
That was a different story.
Waving his tail amicably at the lanky lycan, Dove shifted a tad so he was no longer staring at the lake but rather at the company that was arriving. "'S been a while, hasn't it? How are you!"

~ ~ ~ x x Gail & Sunny x x ~ ~ ~
It was a bright sunny morning today with a cool breeze lightly flowing across the air. It was a welcoming compliment to the warm sun. Ever since all of the other hunters were available after the war, fish was something no one wanted anymore. Sunny couldn't blame anyone for that, everyone in Artemis was forced to eat fish for a long while. The she-cat figured that it would do no harm for her to neglect her duties for the day.
Sunny had just finished weaving herself another basket for her craft. It was filled with beads, rocks, shells and several other trinkets just waiting to be crafted into something. The pretty she-cat picked up her basket and headed to the lake front. Usually, she crafted whatever she was going to make at her home but the weather was far too enjoyable to be ignored. She found herself a nice grassy spot not too far from the water but far enough for her trinkets to be safe even if the basket tipped over. She pulled out some strings and began to weave them around some stones as she hummed a tune.

Gail wandered along through the forest near the lakeside, watching the water gently push and pull against the sandy beach as he walked along. He had set out with the intention to maybe hunt around and see what he could find, but he got distracted (as he easily sometimes did) and decided it was too nice a day to waste on work. It was one of those nice leisure days; even though it was still fairly early in the day, the warmth of the golden sunlight was clearly Dion's doing, the bluebird sky tinged a soft orange. The air was crisp, pure, and fresh, as if it had never been breathed before. He managed a smile, looking blissfully over at the lake that looked like glass, for it was mostly still in the undisturbed wilderness.
As the crisp breeze blew by his nose, he picked up a sort of fishy cat-scent. He perked his ears forward and looked further down the sandbank, seeing another cat sitting near the shore. She looked like she had a basket of sorts, and that fishy smell could only mean that she was a hunter of sorts, a fisher more specifically. He began to make his way over, picking up his pace a little bit.

Sunny continued humming her soothing tune to herself until another scent caught her attention. It was one she was unfamiliar with, or at least, one she could not recognize. With perked ears, she turned her face towards the unfamiliar smell and saw a handsome tom heading towards her. Sunny arched her tail in a friendly greeting, although she didn't know the tom, she hasn't had any terrible experiences with strangers as of yet. The pretty she-cat was sure the other cat was friendly, especially since they were in Artemis.
"Greetings!" Sunny mewed sweetly but loudly enough for the other cat to hear clearly as they headed towards her. "Lovely, day isn't it? I don't believe we've met. My name is Sunny." She purred and sat up properly, putting aside her crafts to not be distracted and rude.

"Hello!" Gail offered a crooked grin, exposing his chipped teeth, and waved his long tail behind him. "My name's Gail... Sunny... Sun-hee... I think I've heard your name around, but it's nice to finally meet you." He heard a small bird tittering in a branch above him, but didn't pay much mind to it.
"It definitely is a nice day... you have a nice voice, by the way." He mentioned sort of awkwardly. "I mean, not to seem like I was eavesdropping or anything! I just noticed as I was walking over."

Sunny was taken back by surprise. He's heard her name before? Have other cats been talking about her? She wasn't sure if she should feel flattered or worried but she was sure that they've said good things. After all, Sunny always tried her best to please others as much as she could. "I'm surprised you've heard of me before, I hope I can live up to whatever expectations you have." She mewed with a smile.
Again, Gail surprised her with the compliment. "Oh! Thank you, I wasn't aware my voice sounded nice. I always figured it sounded sort of like...." she was about to say 'normal' but what is normal anyway? "I figured it sounds Sunny." she was implying as herself as a cat but she realized it could mean also like a sunny day. Would that be accurate? She wasn't sure but it sounded nice.
"What brings you around here Gail? Would you like to join me?" she pawed at the ground by her side, offering him to take a seat besides her.

"Sunny... that's a nice way to describe it, I wouldn't have thought of it that way before. But I was out here, supposed to be hunting, but I just kind of got sidetracked and figured it was such a beautiful day... you can't waste that sort of thing away, can you?" A gentle breeze ruffled his fur, the grass across the way rippling in silky, golden-green waves. The sun glinted off of his smiling gemstone-green eyes.
"But I would like to join you, if you wouldn't mind... though I can't say I'm much use for fishing. Presuming that's what that basket is for?" He flicked his long, coffee-tipped tail to gesture at the woven basket Sunny had beside her.

“Oh, this?” Sunny looked over at the basket that Gail pointed at this his tail. “I actually do have a basket I use to store my fish, but this one is different.” Sunny pulled the basket towards the tom sitting besides her. It was filled with seemingly random things like rocks, string, twigs, cotton balls and feathers. “I use this one to store my crafting things. I like to make decorations using these things in here to decorate my house.” She could feel her chest puff up in joy at finally being able to show off her hobby she has always seemed to have but never seemed to be able to enjoy with someone else.
Crafting seemed to be a rabbit thing because they had small nimble paws that could be used to make fine detail. In fact, Sunny was a little bit jealous that rabbits can do certain things so easily while she has to be extra careful so she doesn’t rip anything by mistake. Sunny looked over at Gail with a smile, “have you ever tried to make something before?”

He chuckled. "Oh geez, I've never been able to really craft anything. Funny enough, I moved into my home a while ago, but its pretty much filled with nothing. I often wonder if it might have been a better idea to move to the lower district, there's so much space for just one cat. And I'm so dumb when it comes to decor, it's just so drab. But I mean, if you would be willing to have the patience to teach me, I'd be proud to say this is my first time."
Gail took a closer look into the basket full of things. "But you seem like you do this a lot, I'm sure you have all sorts of cool little things. I've been meaning to brighten up my place a little bit more, but I've just been too lazy about it. Really, no other excuse."

Sunny sometimes felt that her home in the lower district wasn’t actually too small. She was glad that she wasn’t the only cat that thought that but the she-cat never realized that a bigger home would be difficult to decorate. It would probably be difficult to clean too. Sunny smiled over at Gail, she wasn’t at all surprised that he’s never crafted anything before. It was a hobby probably only one or two other cats in Artemis actually enjoyed. “Well, how about you and I make something to decorate your home?” Sunny purred and took out some of the materials from her basket.
She pulled out a collection of gently wrapped dyed insects. Their wings reflected an array of rainbow colors the moment the slightest rays of sunlight met it. “I’m not sure if you’re a fan of insects. I love everything about the river so I sometimes get dragonflies, dye them with berries and use them in my decorations.” Sunny carefully took a string with the tip of her nail and tied a knot around the dragonfly. She lifted it up, the breeze greeted the quick craft by swinging it softly in the air. “Sometimes, I do something quick like this, and just hang them on something.” She put the insect aside, “but if you don’t like bugs then we can try something else with these shells” She pulled out a few colorful snail shells from her basket. “It’s really amazing how much color berries can make” she purred.

"Whoa!" Gail exclaimed, gently hooking one of the insects by the wing, and resting it in his paw. The light danced off of the luminescent colors- this one happening to be a pinkish-red- and he was extremely afraid he might break it. But it happened to be holding together really well. "This little thing is beautiful! I've never really seen them around much, likely because I'm not down by the water often, but it's absolutely amazing!" He gently placed it back down into the basket, having some trouble at first with unhooking it from his claw, but eventually succeeding. He honestly wished that he had given more time to doing things like crafting and collecting. He knew plenty of other cats that were able to do amazing things, but reflecting on it, he himself wasn't really all that interesting. This, definitely, was interesting, and quite beautiful. Sunny seemed absolutely great so far, even in their brief time within meeting.
He looked at the little snail shells- a pale lime-green, pastel blue, light red- and then thought maybe to steal a peek into the basket again. If the things in there were as nice as these, who knows what else he could do? He didn't really know if this would become a hobby of his own, but he wanted to sort of see and get an idea of what crafting pieces really looked like.
"So, what other sort of this do you have here? I mean, don't get me wrong, I really like these, I'm just fascinated to see what other kinds of things you like to collect?"

“Oh, aren’t they? You’d be amazed by how many beautiful creatures are around Artemis!” Sunny purred delightfully in response to Gail’s enthusiasm to her dragonfly. The pretty cat was pleased by how interested the tom was in her crafts. Perhaps the two of them will uncover a sleeping passion for crafting together? Or perhaps not but at the very least the interest for the arts have been established which was much more than Sunny could have hoped for.
Sunny took out large variety of different colored leaves from the trees around Artemis. Sunny was never a very good climber but whenever she saw a tree with leaves in a fresh, beautiful color she always made the effort to climb up and pick a few. “Leaves may not seem like much at first glance but they can be truly beautiful when using for art!” Sunny arranged the leaves in a rows of five, making a square of leaves. She started the first row with the brightest green leaves she carried in her basket, then followed them up with green leaves fading into yellow and finally, yellow leaves fading into orange and red. “Look at all of these colors! The colors themselves look beautiful enough to look at, even if they’re in just a simple square.” Sunny took out the green leaves and some of the others to form a heart shape. The leaves started with yellow and built up to the bright reds. “Now it looks even more beautiful when you start to shape them into something, even if it’s simple like this but they get more and more beautiful the more detail you put in them. In fact, back at my home I used leaves, twigs and flower petals to make a kingfisher bird.” Sunny smiled brightly at Gail, the tip of her tail waved with happiness. “There’s plenty of things around us that can be used as art but we just need to figure out how to use them.”

"The only creatures I really, really pay attention to are birds, and even then I'd like more to catch them to fill bellies. But I wish I had kept some feathers, now that I think about it, those of bluebirds in particular I like. Far away, they're sort of a nice iridescent blue with some hint of purple? Do you have any? Orioles and robins are nice too, with their bright orange and red plumage, and I actually think I have a hawk feather or two tucked away somewhere at home... I could turn those into something, potentially." Gail tipped his head to one side, looking at the mesmerizing pattern of the leaves. He had spent plenty of time staring up at the trees as well, going through the aspen groves in fall, trying to look for the last of the tittering avian creatures before they migrated to the south of Artemis. He had known that the colors of the leaves were quite nice, but they were made all that more interesting arranged in a pattern. Less... primitive, like a bright rebirth and recreation of something you had to truly understand to appreciate.
"Ahh, yes..." He scanned the lake thoughtfully before returning his gaze to Sunny's eager, joyful one. "Kingfishers... delicious! On the fishy side, but pretty tasty all the same. But I don't think I'll ever hunt them again; the last time I did, I went right into the water. But I got the bird though, and even soaking wet with a mild cold for a few days after, it wasn't half bad!"

“Of course! I love feathers as well. They can be absolutely beautiful when paired with leaves.” Sunny pulled out pulled out the vibrant feathers of a kingfisher bird. They were a variety of bright, flaming orange, a deep blue and a neon cyan. “Currently, I only have feathers from the Kingfisher bird. I usually don’t have the speed to hunt them down myself but you can find plenty of their feathers around the river. The few times I have caught one, I make sure to be gentle with the feathers so I can save them.” Sunny handed the feathers over to Gail.
Sunny couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of Gail chasing a Kingfisher into the water. On the few occasions she managed to catch a Kingfisher, it was actually because she was under the water and grabbed it from below. It happened more out of luck and coincidence that actual intentions of hunting one. “It’s funny you say that, the few times I’ve caught a Kingfisher was because I was already under water. I think the birds think my nose is a fish as I’m swimming back to the surface so they dive right in front of my mouth. The first time it happened, I was so surprised I opened my mouth to scream but the bird just went right into my jaws. I was so shocked!” Sunny giggled at the memory and on how bizarre it sounded.
“It would be best to leave the water hunting to me. I would hate for you to catch greencough from falling into the river.” She giggled but she was sincere. Although the two cats just met, she would still feel some concern over Gail’s health. She was just that kind of she-cat to just about anyone she met.

"Oh wow! Those are really nice!" Gail picked up one of the orange feathers, the faintest hint of blue stemming from the center. It reminded him a bit of a fire. A really, really hot fire, like the kind that burns so high it becomes blue at its center. It was almost hard to believe this came from the same little bird that caused him so much trouble, but he believed it plenty well. There was so much in this little basket, it surprised him. His mind began to trail off to thinking of decorations made of bird feathers, feeling those might be the best fitting and most comely for his home. Maybe make it feel a bit more full inside.
"But I don't plan on chasing anything else into the water anytime soon, believe me." Gail chuckled right along with her. "You sound much better at it than me, even on accident! I think I would be overjoyed to have prey just come diving right into my jaws!"

“I’ve managed to be able to do it a few more times. It’s still quite a surprise but at least it’s not as frightening as it was the first time.” Sunny let out a faint giggle and looked at the bright colored feathers. Now that she had thought about it, she can actually probably start catching Kingfisher birds by luring into the water with her nose and snatching them down into her jaws. It could probably work but birds are intelligent creatures so they might start to recognize how she looks under water and avoid her. Either way, it was a thought that was best to linger on during another time and perhaps put into practice later.
“Well now, I think this is all the current content I have in my basket at the moment. Some things that aren’t in here are some herbs, flowers and their petals. Usually I only have those if the season is right for them.” Sunny noticed some of the leaves she had arranged were beginning to flicker in the wind. She gathered them up gently with her paws and placed them neatly back into the basket. “Have you noticed anything that might interest you to make for your home?” She looked back at Gail with a smile.

"Yep! Picking out a new piece of prey is always scary the first time. I remember when I caught my first bird... I almost missed it because I miscalculated my leap, and had to turn at an awful angle in the air just to catch it my a few wing feathers. Even then, it nearly got away, and I fell so badly that I could have easily sprained my paw! Luckily, I didn't, and it was a pretty proud day!" Gail laughed lightly at remembering his first catch as a novice. Fishers definitely would have to have had it easier, not worrying about falling or anything in the gentle waters of the lake. "How about your first time with fish?"
"Herbs are a fun little thing," Gail commented. "I particularly like them because some of them actually add flavor to meat. I can't stand eating plants, but when I heard about the rabbits and the sorts of things they do, that was one thing that intrigued me. But many plants I guess are seasonings, like mint and lavender? Hopefully they'll all start springing up soon, the summer is a lovely time for all of the flowers that come up, especially in the forest!" He peered back into the basket, surveying everything, and deciding on those feathers.
"Actually, the bird feathers you have I think would go beautifully in my home... maybe a stringing I can hang up by the window, so that the sunlight in the morning could shine through them and enhance the colors further! And actually, if you're up to it, I can show you some good spots in the forest to find different feathers."
He knew of many spots where birds liked to gather, and particularly there was often a lot of down and even fragmented shells near bird nests, and if they were lucky, they could collect full feathers or even the nest itself, if it was empty. Though he viewed them as prey, Gail had often thought how nice it would be to have a nest of baby birds either in the trees near his upstairs bedroom, or in one of his windows.

(omg sorry for the super late reply, I got really busy)
“My first time with a fish?” Sunny looked at the lake and pondered a little over it. Her time as a novice was a time filled with plenty of mistakes and lots of happy accidents. Remembering about it made her smile, “my first catch was actually completely accidental. I accidentally fell asleep at the edge of the lake during training. My mentor left somewhere for a while so I dozed off.” Now that she thought about it, her mentor was a pretty irresponsible tom but at least he taught her well enough to fish now. “My tail was dipped into the water and a fish snapped on it. I yowled so loud my mentor came sprinting back. I fling my tail fast out of the water and a huge trout comes flying out and hits my head before bouncing on the ground.” Sunny laughed at the memory. “It seems like both of my accidents caught me by surprise.”
Sunny only half listened to what Gail was saying as he spoke about herbs, only nodding and smiling occasionally in agreement. Her thoughts kept drifting to how glad she was to have decided to make crafts outside her home for once. If she hadn’t she wouldn’t have met Gail and laughed so much. She hasn’t had good laughs in a while and Gail seemed like the type of tom who lightened everyone’s spirits.
Her attention snapped back when Gail mentioned how the feathers would do nicely in his home. “Ah, yes! We can tie the feathers with string so you can hang them by a window. If you’d like, we can add some of the leaves with it.” Sunny took out a string, feathers and leaves from her basket. She lined the string between them and began placing the leaves and feathers on the string. “Some of the leaf colors complement the feather colors.” She put a blue feather near a green leave and an orange feather with a red leaf. “If you put it by an opened window, both of them will sway nicely in the wind and the sun will shine their colors into your home.” Sunny then took out the leaves but lined the string with just feathers. “Of course, you can have it the way you first wanted too, that would still look good.”

[Ahhh, no worries, me too!]
"I really like what you did with those," Gail moved around some more of the feathers and leaves, trying to pick the ones that complimented each other best. Of course, he didn't seem to have quite the knack for design that Sunny seemed to possess, but hey, better to learn and try to improve himself! He carefully analyzed the little jay feather next to the brilliant cinnamon-colored leaf, and so on in rows of crimson, pumpkin, and mustard, complimenting the plumes of robins and orioles. It looked so... complete on its own, because before it had just looked like a pile of pretty things, but now it was a... uh, an arrangement of pretty things to make an even prettier thing.
In his intensity, Gail hadn't realized how close he was leaning to the ground. His long whiskers gently brushed the dirt, and he snapped back, almost toppling himself over backwards. He steadied himself rather embarrassedly. "Woops.." Gail gave a crooked smile.
"But thank you, Sunny, for showing me all of this. I really had no idea, admittedly, that everything could just come together so.. so perfectly." He looked into her eyes and smiled again. He was definitely glad he had stumbled upon her. Glad to have given his day a more interesting twist, and he had even learned something new, even got a tangible souvenir to bring home with him. The little string, though unfinished, seemed pretty.. sunny. That sounded like the right word.

"Ahh, Guava!" Gail exclaimed, overjoyed. "You have no idea how excited I am to start working with you, this is gonna be awesome!" The smaller tom sat eagerly in front of him, the early sun sort of glinting off of his earring. Gail could not believe Rook had actually given him a novice to teach. He was going to make sure that Guava became a great Lycan.
"Well, for starters we should probably head out into the forest, and I actually want to assess sort of where you're at right now. By the time we're through, I want you to be more or as fast as me, precise, strong, and being all aware of your surroundings. But another important part of being a hunter is specializing, and my finding out what you're best at and what your style is like, we can find the sort of prey you're best built for. Personally, I do birds best."

"Same for me! Oh my Gods, let's get started!" Guava exclaimed and followed his mentor in the depths of the Artemis Forest, as he explained the teaching program -- or, as Guava calls it, the 'step by step plan to become the best lycan ever'.
"Heh, well I'm counting on you to help me be a good hunter" he smiled cheekily. His mentor seemed like a great cat - joking and mood-lightening, but still can help him climb steps. This is going to be great!
"I hope I'll find my specialization quickly..." he wondered out loud before inquiring "where do we start? -In this forest I mean," both green gazes meeting, one sure of himself, and the other one wanting answers.

"I'm definitely sure you'll be a great hunter!" Gail purred. "Eagerness to learn is probably one of the most important things, because stuff like this doesn't always happen overnight, for sure. Plus, the more you can learn, the more experienced and knowing you'll become!
"And don't worry too much about your specialization yet. It's a delicate balance of things to chose, however simple the concept itself may seem. It all really depends on your body build, preference, and tendencies towards a certain skill set. But it's important for a hunter to have a basic knowledge of all kinds of prey, but sharpening one in particular takes time. It actually took me longer than most to figure out I could hunt birds best, but it so happened to be because I've got strong, lean legs. I can jump pretty high and nimbly." He playfully stuck out one of his back legs.
Gail looked around the trees, scanning them carefully before spying a twisted, worn path. Tree roots grew over it, and bramble tendrils began to curl around the many rocks sticking out of the ground.
"Well... let's get right into it. I want to test your speed and agility first, just so we can sort of see where you're at, and how much promise you show for it, though I have no doubt you'll do wonderfully! And remember it's your first day too, so if you do well, that means that you're already ahead of the game!
"What you're going to do is follow me through there. We're going to be running down that at full speed, dodging as many of the things in the path as possible. Your goal is to hold top speed, avoid everything as best you can without losing momentum, and be able to keep up with me. Does that sound good to you? Or we can start with another exercise if you'd like."

"I'm glad you think so!" Guava beamed at the compliment, determined to make his mentor proud. He knows he isn't supposed to work due to affection with other cats, but it can help. He would try hard to please his teacher Lightning because she was nice and caring towards him, for example, or would get better results when teamed up with Toadstool. Anyways, you have to be on his good side - or be from the royal family - if you expect good work from him.
He nodded at the explanation, wondering what kind of prey he would catch best. Definitely not birds, that's for sure, and no fish, that's only for fishers. Besides, he's terrible in the water. Rodents surely? Squirrels? Rabbits? Surely something along those lines.
Guava's ear twitched, his earring gleaming due to the sunlight. He looked at the path and took some time to process the information. Some parkour? Sounds good to him! He could just treat this as any other game he used to play at recess with Spirit and Kit, Faith sometimes too. "I may not be the best on my first day..." he eagerly nodded, "I'm ready when you are!"

"Don't even worry about being the best! When my mentor taught me this, I tripped over my own paws for moons until I could finally run." Gail chuckled. "Of course, since then I've had to get better, but I know you'll pick it up easier than I did."
Gail flicked his tail to motion for Guava to move behind him. He poised into a crouching position, his ears fallen flat, his entire body held still and firm, yet not rigidly, but relaxed and ready to spring. A sudden release of adrenaline made his heart beat a bit faster, getting ready for the race. He could have chosen to go easy and not give this his all, but if he ever wanted this novice to truly know what a Lycan was supposed to do, he needed to set a prime example for Guava. He could sense this young tom didn't need a gentle hand helping him catch up and babying him. Though Gail was quite fun and friendly by nature, his job was something fueled by passion and intensity.
"Ready?" He breathed, and then tuned out everything around him, sharpening his focus on the path ahead. He glanced quickly so he could be ready right away; a twisted root to the right, wouldn't require more than a slightly larger step. A dip in the pathway, better not stumble in that...
"Run!" Gail's muscles, coiled up like a snake ready to strike, sprung into action and he took a large, low-to-the-ground leap to propel himself forward, lengthening his strides, but not too much. Keep everything in control.

"Well I hope I'll get better, I'm counting on you to teach me!" Guava laughed, positioning himself behind his mentor in order to follow him through the forest.
Guava wasn't expecting less. He didn't want a second father - Sand does his job perfectly. He wants someone who can rise him up to the top lycans of all Artemis, without being too strict either. He wanted to rise, be criticized, but also have fun. It's basically his life motto, "a little party never killed nobody", isn't he right?
"Yes, I'm ready," He confirmed and darted right behind his mentor, keeping up as he could. He was never the strongest kitten, but he was quick enough to follow him around. He jumped the root with ease, letting his guard down for a moment. I suppose I'm pretty good at thiiiii- He thought and put a foot in the dip, falling forwards and hitting his jaw on the floor. Great Lords, he should have payed attention to where he was going.
Quickly scrambling back up to his legs, he bounced forwards and caught up with his mentor.

Gail had heard the young tom fall, and kept going, but figured he would end it a bit early to make sure that Guava was alright. There was a tall beech up ahead, not too far, and Gail skidded to a halt, just avoiding tripping over a thick root himself. A nearby squirrel shot up the tree in a frenzy of panic, chittering.
He shook his head and turned around, flicking his ear. "You alright? I heard you took a spill there," It was important to be able to 'walk it off', but Gail had no plans of being a crazy, disciplinary sergeant.

Caitlin needed a drink. Actually, she needed twenty. The days have been getting longer, and more stressful. She was honestly a very stoic cat and rarely let the stress get to her, but even she needed a break eventually. Luckily, tonight Rook and River were meeting with some decorators from Hyele. That had sounded awfully boring, and luckily Sepia had offered to watch over both of them and let her take the night off. Now, she sat in Majesty Square, where a temporary bar had been set up. In her days of guarding Rook, she had overheard plans to build a permanent building; something she looked forward too. For now, however, this would work. There was a growing crowd that she gently weaved through, smiling a bit knowing that that gentleness and grace would soon be gone if she could.
"Something strong." She meowed to the tuxedo bartender. He gave a nod and passed her a small glass of a clear liquid. She lapped it up, ignoring the way it stung her tongue. The bartender lined up three more, then went to help some others. In the midst of her drinking, she was vaguely aware of everything getting brighter, more focused. It would be a while before she became drunk. Right?

It was cold, it was crowded, and the sharp tang of fermented liquid hung in the umbra night of Majesty Square. Most of all, it was different than anywhere Gail had ever been. It was thrilling. Having come from such a small area, to see a place like this so teeming with life was... heart-pounding, adrenaline-bringing. His breath plumed into the air, mingled with those of so many others, and fountain at the center was barely visible. It wouldn't have been visible at all if not for the small lights swaying gently from it. Gail pushed his way through the many citizens of Artemis Village to make his way over to the statue-esque waterfall. He scrambled up onto the ledge to try to get a vantage point, his front paw slipping into the freezing cold water, dousing him up to his elbow. Nice!
From this small elevation, he could see a little bit better, and noticed a small setup from which he guessed the sharp, tangy scent was coming from; a bar. In all honesty, he had never drank much before, and no one really encouraged him to. His clumsy nature would only be amplified, and who knows how many ways he could get himself killed. But why not go over tonight? He could try something mild, and besides, his leg was freezing. The sooner he could get to a towel, the better.
Once Gail had made his way over to the open-roofed makeshift shelter, he awkwardly climbed onto a barstool and waited to catch the attendee's attention.
"Erm- excuse me?" No answer. "Excuse me?!" Gail called louder. "Could I get something sorta, uh, mild, please? And a rag, if you would..."

Caitlin's whiskers brushed gently against the smooth wooden table, and her eyes raised at the sound of a new voice. Most of the cats that were gathered around spoke in eager whispers, giving it a nice and warm atmosphere. This tom, however, was definitely going to be a loud one. Feeling a bit of pity for the tom, seeing as the bartender was actually on the other side of the tavern, she quickly lapped up her remaining drink and went to get him. "There's a loud tom over there who wants a rag or something." She meowed absently, wondering if perhaps she should stay for the rest of the night or just try to get some much needed sleep.
The tuxedo told her he was busy, but passed her a small towelette. A little annoyed she was now some kind of "item fetcher" for this tom, but at this point she just wanted to get it over with. The orange lights stood bright above her, drowning out the stars and sending colorful patterns across the area. Overall, the whole place seemed fake; too colorful, vibrant, and busy to possibly be real. Or that was just the alcohol. Nevertheless, she finally weaved her way to the tom. "The bartender's a bit busy right now, but here's a... a rag." She meowed after she had set it down in front of him. Much to her annoyance, the bartender was almost instantly back there. She bit her lip, and used all of her nonexistant willpower to keep herself from cursing aloud.
The bartender came over with three more shot glasses, and a glass cup for the tomcat. She realized quite suddenly he had set her drinks next to his. Now what the heck was he implying?

Gail kind of stared at the rag that this strange she-cat had slammed down next to him with an annoyed mumble. When the bartender wandered over and so happened to put her drinks next to his, he could sense how annoyed she was.
"I get it, I wouldn't want to be seen with me either, but you don't have to rub it in." He flashed a half-hearted grin, still staring down, showing his chipped left tooth through his crooked smile. His voice had dropped to it's normal, slightly-soft tone with just a hint of an Irish accent. "Just move or something if you so desperately need to get away from me, please, leave me to my miserable existence."
He glanced up to see her reaction and began to study her face with his brilliant green eyes that reflected the lantern lights like a prism. She had a cold, professional feel to her, her face dark and silver with tabby markings. She had the most striking, icy blue eyes, which Gail supposed quite reflected her attitude. She seemed sloppy though. Probably drunk, he could smell the strong stuff on her breath.
He pulled the glass to his lips and lapped at some of it, still looking at her, and then calmly pulling his gaze back down to the liquid in his cup. Gail then set it down and began to aggressively rub his arm with the towel, not really caring if it was slightly dirty.

Caitlin was rather caught off guard by his response. It didn't allow her to be just purely annoyed (which was much preferred) and instead left her feeling conflicted. "I see. Don't have much friends, huh?" She meowed bluntly, dropping some of the adverbs in a sort of botched Russian accent; one that her Aunt spoke in. She kept her icy blue gaze steady, something she was good at even when close to drunk. Perhaps she could follow through with one of her own tactics. It was clear to her now that this tom was just trying to get someone to talk to, and she was rather good at avoiding confrontation. A skill she too learned from her Aunt. "You know, I'm just going to sit down here. But I wouldn't pull one over on me, you seem like a hunter, yes?" She tilted her head curiously, giving a small grin. "Which means you won't know anything about fighting.... specifically, fighting a reaper." Quite satisfied with herself, but also eager to continue on her detrimental mission, began drinking more glasses.
Caitlin thought she wasn't getting drunk, but by the time her tongue rasped against the bottom of the third smooth glass, her self consciousness slowly began to ebb away. This was about the time she would be heading home, but the drinks were still flowing and the crowd was still large. The wind made the lights above them dance, making it almost resemble one of those large mirror balls in the ballroom. It was honestly quite nauseating, but she was determined to remain looking sophisticated and as professional as she could; however her normally focused gaze was beginning to waver, and her body started to sway a bit aimlessly.

Gail gave a small laugh, slightly feeling a bit bad for her. This she-cat seemed really out of it.
"Please, slow down. I can only answer so many things at once. First of, it's not my lack of friends, it's just that I'm a tired kid with self deprecation, lots of unachievable dreams, and at this point I could care less. And I don't need your pity, I actually could care less if you sat here or not if it bothers you so much.
"Secondly, I am a hunter- you guessed it, amazing- and a Lycan at that. If you read any of the books, you might know that our skill sets are quite similar and my father was a Reaper himself so I'm fairly certain I could take you on any day of the week. I come from whatever long line of great hunters but I believe I was destined to be the 'Great Disappointment'.
"Lastly, my name is Gail, and I really don't think you should be getting yourself so wasted. It's really a shame to waste yourself away like that."
Gail took another sip of the drink he had, letting the stinging, fruity taste wash over his tongue. He kept his tone even and indifferent, but figured it couldn't hurt to be somewhat kind to this cat. She didn't look like she was having the best of nights, anyways.
"...And you are?"

Under normal circumstances, she probably would have gotten up and fought him right there to prove herself. But currently she felt if she stood up too fast she would pass out.
Caitlin looked at her three empty glasses. She wasn't exactly skilled in "math", but she was fairly sure three and three was six. Six? That had to be a record for her. She quickly turned her gaze to the bartender, who was flirting with some medic it seemed. She shot him as nasty as a glare as she could before returning to face Gail. "Gail huh? I met a cat the other day named Gale.... A hunter too actually..." She had to think for a long while there.
"Name's Caitlin by the way. She gave him a hard glare. "Don't call me Cait, please." She added rather quickly. It was a nickname her mother used, and didn't exactly trust anyone enough to allow them to call her so. "And I'm sorry, got bit ahead of myself. Actually... a lot ahead of myself. I usually only have one or two." She added, quickly glancing at the bartender. If I see that tom in the battle I might "accidentally" mistake him for a Paros cat. The somewhat violent thought brought a smile to her face. She then stretched out into a more comfortable position; which was her front paws stretched out onto the table and her head resting on them like a makeshift pillow. Gail actually didn't seem like too bad of a cat; but she was always one to judge from first impressions. Perhaps why she didn't have many friends of her own.

"Well, nice to meet you Caitlin. If it makes you feel any better, 1.) I wouldn't have called you that in the first place, and 2.) I'm not one to judge. Just be careful, please."
He downed the soft drink he had been sipping on and decided it couldn't hurt for another. It's not like he had anything to do tomorrow, and these weren't super strong either. But as soon as he glanced over at the attendee being busy elsewhere, he just decided to leave it alone until that sucker decided to do his job. The lantern lights gently swaying were quite comforting, casting their warm fiery glow, and the gentle hum in the background was comforting. A gentle, cool night breeze came through and ruffled his creamy-tawny fur, like the blonde of a new fawn. Gail swirled his empty glass around, trying not to let his mind wander too much. It had been a long time since he had had any sort of alcohol, and he could feel it just a bit, but not enough to be of worry. It was nice, and the fiery burn of it gave warmth to his belly, spreading throughout his pelt and giving a slight blush to his cheeks, coupled with the cold night. It was nice, with the starlight twinkling above. He stole a quick glance up at them, and then looked back down the bar to see if the waiter would ever come back. Gail wasn't rich, no, but he could afford one more of the... whatever it was.

Caitlin's gaze finally faltered. She bit her lip and stared straight ahead of her. There wasn't actually a wall on the other side of the bar, just a small shelf with an assortment of colorful poisons. However, past there was just the open courtyard. Cats milled about like it was mid day, but in a more rythmic manner, like they were almost swaying with the lights. This promptly caused her to look at the lights, which suddenly made her head ache. Oh this is going to be fun to explain to Rook tomorrow.
She then turned her attention back to her empty glasses in front of her. The glass sparkled warmly, like it was just begging. Deciding enough was enough, she shoved all three small cups to the side. One teetered dangerously close the the edge, but didn't fall. "Drink to your health!" Her Aunt would cry. More like drink to your demise. She then returned to her comfortable and somewhat awkward position, and watched carefully as Gail aimlessly swirled his cup. She heard the definite sound of a hiss from behind her. Fluffing up slightly and quickly rising to her paws, she saw as that young medic scampered off; her tail raised high and her long fur on end.
The bartender looked rather defeated, but Caitlin spared him no pity. She happened to have very closed minded thoughts, which was why she disliked toms so much. It was small things and details like what had just happened, that she piled together until it created a uniform image of what all toms must be like. Pessimism... that's the word. Where everyone is out to get you and nothing good happens without a cost. Perhaps the hangover and restless night she was about to have was the cost... but for what? She turned away from the frazzled bartender and looked at Gail. Obviously she wasn't thinking clearly, but he was perhaps the first tom she had spoken to that wasn't just interested in flirting. "No better than a Savage I suppose." She meowed conversationally.

"What?" Gail turned his emerald gaze onto Caitlin, who just meowed some random sentence out of nowhere. She had shoved everything aside, and was looking quite sick, but he guessed she wasn't about ready to get up and go anywhere right now.
Quickly, he decided to catch the bartender while he was still nearby them. "Excuse me, sir? I apologize for, uh, interrupting, but... do you mind?" Gail held up his glass. As the sulking tom grabbed his glass, Gail slipped him one extra silver piece. Not like he could afford it.
"Don't let it get you down. Keep your priorities straight, and focus on the one right she-cat. It makes life a whole lot easier." The tuxedo waiter seemed a bit confused by this unexpected response, but took the extra piece and got Gail his drink. It came back, smelling sharper than ever and with a sickly sweetness.
He turned his attention back to the discombobulated Caitlin, who still had her head in her paws.
