Description
- Once Bitten (1985). I remember watching this movie a couple of times on television, especially on the MGM channel - including one time where they aired a marathon of vampire movies and this was one of them. I love this movie because it's got an interesting take on vampirism, not to mention it has a very attractive vampiress played by Lauren Hutton in it. The soundtrack has some really catchy songs on it but sadly it's so hard to find. Plus...young Jim Carrey in one of his first movie roles.
- Scooby Doo (2002). Mainly because of Rowan Atkinson and the character of Mondavarious was one of the first characters of his I ever saw next to Edmund Blackadder and Mr Bean.
- Little Shop Of Horrors (1986). I LOVE everything about this movie including the soundtrack and the cast. I especially Audrey II - who is one of my favorite movie monsters (I even have a homemade toy of him/her/it). I know all the songs by heart too.
- Collision Course (1989). You know how everyone seems to love Russell Brand but I hate him? Well it's the exact opposite with the star of this movie. Yes, i'm talking about Jay Leno. Almost everyone I know seems to dislike all because of reasons like 'he's not funny' or 'he screwed Conan over' - the latter wasn't even his fault, he's just a good man in a bad time. From what i've read Leno is a very nice guy, friendly and outgoing and charitable. And yet these people think of him as the spawn of Satan and act like he killed their beloved pets or something. Yes, I admit it - I LOVE Leno, and i'm not ashamed of it. I'm sorry, but I cannot and will never be able to be mad at Leno, not even if you tried pulling an Annie Wilkes on me. Now this movie most of you will recognize because of Everything Is Terrible and yes...the jokes are kind of corny in some parts, but I don't outright hate it by any means. I think it's actually quite good for a buddy-cop comedy prototype movie, Leno and Morita work together and there are lots of cool action scenes (including a huge car/motorbike chase, Leno's character chasing after Pat Morita's character in the hotel, the shootout scene, and of course Pat Morita doing a flying kick into the windshield of the villain's car). Plus it's got Chris Sarandon in it - yep, Jerry Dandrige himself is in this. Hmmm...now I'm thinking that someone on here should do a photomanip or a story piece about either Jerry showing up as a guest on the Leno version of The Tonight Show or one where Sarandon's character in this movie is all vamped up and he bites Leno's characters and makes him a vampire. Also...this is another movie with very catchy songs in the soundtrack...except the soundtrack didn't even get released and that's sad.
- Oscar (1991). If you know me, I LOVE John Landis and most if not all of his movies (except for Blues Brothers 2000). And this is one of his finest and funniest, I LOVE the witty humor and the other little gags including the visual gags - including the wallpaper in Lisa Provolone's room which has Beatrix Potter characters on it. Plus everyone in this movie is so hilarious.
- Nothing But Trouble (1991). You'll hear all kinds of horror stories about how horrible this movie supposedly is but it's not really that bad, it's actually really funny in a twisted way. The best way to view this movie is to think of it as a full length Tales From The Crypt episode or Tales From The Dark episode, because it's very much in the vein of those type of shows. Originally the movie was supposed to come out on October 31st, 1990 but there were several scenes with blood and violence that had to be cut down, it was also originally going to be called Valkenvania and at one point...Geeked. I guess the change in name does sort of make sense now in hindsight considering two years later the Alex Winter vehicle 'Freaked' was released, so I guess changing it to Nothing But Trouble does make sense. This movie really is severely underrated too and tragically misunderstood.
- The Stepford Wives (2004). The SJW crowd would be all over this movie and probably would find lots of things to whine about but not me, I LOVE this remake because even though it went through production hell - it's actually quite good for a comedic update on the original. Plus it's got Walken in it. In fact the only bad thing is that Walken's character turns out to be an android...in my personal headcanon though, Walken's character is just a Walken that moved to Stepford and adapted to living there.
- Spice World (1997). Back in the 80's and 90's, you'd get shunned for liking things that were meant to appeal to the opposite gender, but I love the Spice Girls, I love their songs and I LOVED this movie as well. In case you're wondering, Posh is my favorite.
- Beetleborgs: Curse Of The Shadowborg and Beetleborgs Metallix: The Movie. I watched the heck out of both of these (I even have an entire gallery of screencaps of Flabber from those two films, but they're of very poor VHS level quality due to at the time there weren't any DVD releases for the show) - I would hesitate to call either of these 'movies' but they're sort of mini-movies anyway because both of them have a saga/storyarc in them.
- The Country Bears (2002). Again...Walken. I can't say no to anything that has Walken in it.
- Spy Kids 3: Game Over (2003). Would you believe this is one of the first Stallone movies I ever got introduced to? It's true, it really is. I saw Film Brain review it on Bad Movie Beatdown and decided to get it for myself and I liked it. Plus as a fan of Robert Rodriguez, I love the Spy Kids trilogy in general, it's just as good as the first two plus Sly makes a great comedic villain, I even feel bad for The Toymaker in this because of what happened between him and Valentin.
- Teen Wolf (1985). This is one of the movies that helped kick off my fascination with werecreatures, I remember a friend of mine watching episodes of the cartoon spin-off, but like with The Mask animated series - I didn't know it was a spin-off of a movie until I saw the movie the show is based on. I remember MGM showed Teen Wolf several times, I think there was a werewolf movie marathon on there or something and there was a double bill of this one and its sequel -both of which I liked and you could say this along with Buffy and Big Wolf On Campus got me interested in monsters, in particular shapeshifters and werecreatures. I remember even going through a phase where I wanted to be a werecreature myself (which i'm slightly embarrassed about now for personal reasons). I know the werewolf look isn't exactly what you expect a werewolf to look and it's not a savage, four-legged bloodthirsty beast, but it's a feel good comedy...so I like the werewolf designs in this movie.
- How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000). I used to be really scared of Carrey's Grinch because there was this magazine that had an article about the movie and it had this picture of Carrey in full Grinch makeup and costume standing on top of the mountain, I also remember being very paranoid at a friend of my mom's house because said friend had a grinch doll that I swear was always watching me, but after I saw it - I became obsessed with it. I mean I have done countless Grinch TF stories, have a Weregrinch as one of my monstersonas, have made several anthro-grinches on IMVU, and even at one point wanted to be a Grinch myself. I even have the behind the scenes book of the movie, the storybook, an old Playstation 1 magazine that came out around the time of the movie (it has the Grinch on the cover and talks about the game and the movie), a Makeup Artist magazine that has The Grinch on the cover (and also has an article about it), a Grinch costume which is homemade, and even the Grinch snow-globe that came with the deluxe dvd. This movie is one of the first Jim Carrey movies I ever saw and my number 1# Carrey movie and Carrey movie role. I'm also heavily interested in the behind the scenes features - especially hearing Carrey talk about how it felt to be covered in that makeup (which btw was pretty much akin to torture according to what he says). It's movies like this that made me realize that my dream job is to be a makeup artist.
- Van Helsing (2004). I'm normally against CGI in modern horror movies because I feel it is lazy and just there for the sake of trying to gross people out with the gore factor, and with monster transformations...well...sometimes the monster looks more like it came from a very early PS2 game, but with Van Helsing - neither of which bothered me and I really love this movie in general despite the hate it's gotten.
- Machete Kills (2013). A lot of people don't seem to get this movie at all. There's nothing to 'get' when it comes to Machete and Machete Kills, it's just Danny Trejo kicking ass and being awesome. There are a lot of things I LOVE about this, like how Tom Savini's character Osirus is now a good-guy and also Mel Gibson as Luther Voz. I also love the El Chameleon character and the many disguises he/she has. Not to mention a very attractive grown-up Alexa Vega as well.
